Since the way I understand it, I have to make an appointment at the Genius Bar to transfer my information from one computer to the next, should I bet the crowds and buy it online and go in after Christmas on a reservation

You can transfer everything yourself, log in with your Apple ID and password, ....use migration assistant to transfer data over, or use an external HD to transfer data.

log into the APP store and download stuff you already purchased

Yes, I imagine after Xmas there would be large crowds at places.

One on one, if you use it, is an incredible training and helpful tool if you want to learn more.

If youre happy with where you are right now in computer tech. / use / etc.   then thats a personal conclusion.

Even senior support staff use one on one to learn stuff, so its useful for most all skill levels.

generally I dont like such computer training stuff and self-teach, however One on one really is rather amazing.
