Dec 14, 2013 2:09 PM in response to Deedgeeby Barby Gale,Yes, there are 2 finders. If you use the regular Mac finder, it is the Mavericks finder without the label colors. The icon for the Path Finder app is a round silver/black ball and sits in the dock. Your choice which one you use--neither one seems to interfere with the other.
I'm going to try it and see if it gives me a better way of organizing my files or not. As I said it does NOT bring the labels back to files that are on the desktop, which is what I wanted most. So I will be forced into reorganizing myself no matter what. unless I revert back to pre-Mavericks.

Dec 14, 2013 2:13 PM in response to Deedgeeby Barby Gale,I should have also said that the Path Finder finder window various ways you can display the files you want, and has all sorts of bells and whistles that may or may not be of use to me (or you)--I'll just have to fool around with it and see how it goes.

Dec 14, 2013 2:39 PM in response to DABbioby Barby Gale,Actually, AppleCare was NOT aware of the issue until I talked with the person who helped me, who was really nice and smart and helpful, and who agreed with me on thinking the change was odd (unless he was just being nice...). He did his research while we were talking.
From reading other posts by people who have had other issues with Mac upgrades over the years, it doesn't sound like Mac cares a hoot about us 'wee folk' who spend most of our waking moments living with their mis-creations as well as their great creations. Obviously whoever made the "colored labels-to-tags" decision does not really use a computer--they only work with theoretical design ideas and codes. Is there such a name as a "theoretical geek"?

Dec 14, 2013 3:15 PM in response to Barby Galeby Deedgee,I guess I'll give it a try. If I use Path Finder 100 percent of the time I won't need to worry anymore about not having my precious colors. Sigh.

Dec 16, 2013 12:32 PM in response to Barby Galeby hotwheels 22,i hope they fix this.
at a bare minimum it would be nice if there was an option so that the labels could show up at the END of the name of my file or folder when i see them on the desktop and at the /beginning/ when i see them in finder.
when they are on my desktop i can see the whole desktop (and any little colored dots) and it would be nice to allow the "labelled" names to register in line with the non-labelled names (instead of being offset by the amount of space the dot takes up at the beginning) - while conversely it would be nice to be able to see the dots AT THE BEGINNING in finder (instead of searching for them all the way at the right in my list view in finder).
i mean, am i missing something or is this another functional workflow example where this somewhat radical UI change - to a feature that has been in place for 15 years or more - has not been particularly well thought-out...

Dec 21, 2013 2:24 AM in response to herbert17by ApMaX,Apple should bring back the previous label interface. At least as an option. The same for the scroll bars on all Finder and appliation windows.
Apple, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Dec 21, 2013 9:36 AM in response to Barby Galeby Deedgee,I just lodged a complaint on the official Apple complaint thingie. It said "we cannot reply individually bla bla" so I don't have great hopes for any of this.
Who exactly did you talk to? Apple care, that is, the warranty folks? Or is there some official channel on which we can make our case? Does anyone know out there?
-
Dec 21, 2013 9:47 AM in response to Deedgeeby sunnyjohn,Yes, DeeGee - I just followed the link that Pete gave above and it takes you to a standard Apple feedback form which I duly completed. Just click on Pete's link and it'll take you there.

Dec 22, 2013 9:19 AM in response to Deedgeeby Barby Gale,I replied to the Apple Care warranty people. I don't think there is an official 'complaint' site--that way no one at apple is 'responsible' for anything or has to reply to any of us. In the meantime I am acclimating to the dots vs lable colors, altho I still have a trial Path Finger app, haven't really used it much. Just an 'old dog' at heart...("you can't teach old dogs new tricks...").
Actually I am experiencing several disturbing by-products of installing Mavericks. My Imac is running as slow as an old mule--it takes over a minute to open up Word for instance, and my computer basically acts like it is running in molasses. (I've had to order more RAM even tho I have a 2-GB computer and have no major usage other than general office and indesign files.) Also, several applications feel unstable--windows suddenly disappearing when I'm doing another action, and eventually appearing again (not closing, just disappearing and coming back); having endless problems getting my mac mail--3 days had to get it online thru Icloud no problem--but couldn't get it to funnel down into my mac mail desktop app; then suddenly 3 days worth of mail appeared one afternoon--and now again it has been off for a day or two. Word not working well at all. Losing track. Lots and lots of minor disturbing symptoms of an unstable Mavericks system application. Oh well, I hear the Model T Ford had its issues to start with....
Hope everyone is having a happy holiday!!

Dec 22, 2013 11:12 AM in response to Barby Galeby petermac87,As these 'by-products' have nothing to do with the title of this thread. Then ease start a new thread detailing your specific problems, computer specs, third party apps etc. Even a crash report or eyre heck report would be handy.
Good luck

Dec 22, 2013 7:38 PM in response to Barby Galeby Deedgee,Hmm, I have none of those problems (perhaps you should go to Genius help soon). But I do have vexing problem. My macros on Word do not function because Mavericks somehow erased Visual Basic, Word's interior programming language. Anyone have a clue on what to do for loss of Visual Basic? (Perhaps I should start a new thread.)
