Mar 22, 2013 7:12 AM in response to barry campfieldby Zambros,I know this is an old post but I had a very similar problem and I thought I'd post the solution I found for anyone else who may benefit from it.
My Problem was:
My iMac couldn't find my keyboard (after a restart) even though it was working earlier in the same day. Changing batteries did not help.
Solution for my case:
Unplugged the Apple TV since I discovered it was picking up the keyboard signal and trying to pair with it. Popular keyboard, eh?

Apr 8, 2013 5:27 PM in response to Zambrosby Gerhud,Hi Zambros:
This was excellent advice! I shut off the bluetooth application on the Apple TV and voila! my keyboard worked just fine. Thanks.

Dec 23, 2013 2:10 PM in response to Gerhudby Captain Slocum,If you have a power cut or turn off your Mac and have Bluetooth turned on in your iPad, you will have the same problem. Go into settings on your iPad and turn off Bluetooth and your keyboard will come back. It took hours to work this one out! This is with Lion. Hopefully they have sorted this bug by now in Mavericks.

Mar 4, 2016 3:47 PM in response to MuddyOldBootsby Original Evie,My issue was an iPad too. Was so weird because initially it was the mouse that stopped working and then after a restart I couldn't login because I had no keyboard. Had to login as a guest to set up a usb keyboard and then google the problem.
