Q: A friend of mine offered to let me buy her used ipad for my son for Christmas. It is 3 yrs old. They were deleting apps and books off of there last night and accidentally deleted all the apps except itunes. Can this be fixed?

My son wanted a ipad for Christmas but it was out of my price range. A friend of mine bought her husband a new one and offered to let me buy his used one. It is 3 yrs old. Last night they were deleting their apps and books so it would be clean for my son. They accidentally deleted all the apps on there except itunes. She is afraid it cannot be used now. Is there a way to get internet and anything else I will need on there?

You cannot delete the preinstalled apps. They are on there somewhere.

Swipe from screen to screen to look for them - although if they wiped the iPad, I think one of the next two suggestions is the more likely way to go.

Check Settings>General>Restrictions and make sure that the apps are not disabled.

I think this is the most likely solution. You can also reset the home screen layout and the icons will reappear - but the home screen will return to the way that it looked when you first activated your iPad.

    Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.

Ok, when I push the on button the only thing on the screen is the itunes button with a power cord underneath it. The ipad is fully charged. And it will not do anything when I touch the screen. Any suggestions?

It sou7nds like they fully cleaned it off for you.  The screen you are seeing is the same screen you woul see it is was brand new.  So plug it into your computer that has a current version of I tunes on it.  It will walk you through the process of setting up the pad for your kid, all as if it was new.

Well that is a totally different story and not what I was imagining. pjl123 hit the nail on the head. You need to activate the device now by plugging the iPad into your computer running iTunes and the activation process will begin automatically.

If you don't have iTunes on your computer. Download it here.
