Screen sharing with Remote Desktop app fails

Hi Folks,

Hopefully someone will point out my tech shortcomings or a persistent bug in Apple's RD utility. I try to log in directly to my MacMini 10.8 server using 3.7.1 ARD. It used to work when the MacMini was in the same building I work in. The server people would get the error saying screen sharing was not enabled and therefore ARD would not work EVEN though Remote Management was correctly turned on in Sys Pref > Sharing.

Since moving the MacMini to the server room, the server admin people have no problem using ARD to log in, where previously they could not, but now I am unable to log into the server with ARD.

The techs said it was on a different VLAN but that should not make a difference.

Does anyone have any idea?

Is this something others are experiencing too?

The strangest thing of all is that if I open the Server.app and go to Tools > Screen sharing and enter the IP address it works!!! Go figure.
