Q: I am trying to make a purchase on iTunes with a gift card but it is not allowing me to because it wants to use my credit/debit card which I know have no funds in. My iTunes account has $30 on it but won't work as wants to use credit card.

Are you trying to buy a gift for someone?  If so, be aware that the iTunes Store, like most online retailers, does not permit gifts to be purchased with gift cards.

I'm having the same issue.  I have $25 from a gift card loaded onto my account, but whenever I buy comics or apps on my iPad, it just charges my credit card.

I don't want to remove my credit card, I just want it to use my credit first (like most online retailers).

I'm having same problem on my iPad. I purchased a movie assuming it would come from my credit from a gift card, but it charged my card. I feel robbed. It's all android store on my phone from now on. I hope apple reps see all of these posts of them robbing their customers.

I was having this problem too. Last night, before I rented a movie, I turned iTunes on on my iMac. I rented the movie from iTunes on apple tv, then checked my acount on my iPad. My account updated once I logged into it. Maybe you need to have iTunes running when purchasing or renting.

I had a similar problem, except my phone was a new IPhone 5s, and it was my first purchase. I simply put money into my credit card account (only $2), and gave them my credit card details in the payment info section. I then tried purchasing again and it worked using the gift card I had previously redeemed, maybe they just need to know that if it doesn't work there's enough money on your card, as a guarantee.   

I am now experiencing the same problem. I wasn't sure if I could use the money in my account from a gift card to buy TV shows. I don't see why not.

I clicked on my email on itunes in the top left corner and had to choose payment opptions. from there I clicked none on the credit card thing. I was then able to use my credits ^_^

If you click on your email or your ID, press acount. Then go down and you will see a button that says reset. It wont change any of your personal info but it worked for e when I went back to the song to purchase

Got the similar issue. Received a gift card, but have no credit card tied to Apple ID. Now I can't buy an app in Mac App Store, it says I have insufficient store credit! I'm trying to buy a $49.99 app and my Apple ID Balance is $50.

Why am I being asked for credit card info when trying to use gift card?

Found an answer here. Maybe it'll be useful for anyone else. All the matter is in tax for digital purchases in some states.

Got the answer! I was trying to buy an EMINEM song and here's what you have to do:

1. Billing Info Menu, click on any of the choices (Visa, AA) and click back on none

2. Click done

3. A pop up would prompt saying "Do you still want to purchase Lose Yourself (Or your desired purchase) For $2.19 (How much your purchase costs)"

4. Click buy and enjoy your download!
