Q: A work-around from 08 to 5?

It seems that Pages 5 will not open Pages 08 documents, and the advice is to save the document in Pages 09. That's all very well if Pages 09 is installed, but if it's not, you're stuck— I mean, I'm stuck. Cut and paste is a a pain: I have a lot (LOT) of documents with much text and multiple images. The text is fine, but the images each need to be managed individually, as Select All doesn't pick them up, and if I contiguously select them, they are subsequently pasted into the new doument as a conglomerate, and can't be separated. I then need to re-position, re-format . . .

Is there a work-around from 08 to 5? Does Apple still sell 09?

Is it likely that Apple will provide such a work-around, or include 08 in the compatability stakes?

Advice re Selecting All, including the images, and pasting into Pages 5, would be appreciated as an alternate choice.

TIA

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

You'll have to buy iWork 09 on Amazon or such site. Apple doesn't sell them anylonger. Pages 09 from iwork 09 is far better than Pages 5.

I just opened a .pages document that I created in Oct. 2008 with Preview on Mavericks, and it imaged perfectly. Copy and paste into Pages v5 is a possibility, though having a functional copy of Pages ’09 v4.x would be more productive.

Thanks for your input, Viking, but you seem able to do something I can't.

As indicated in my original post, my documents are quite complex: columns, images with borders and shadows, bells, whistles etc. They are typical magazine articles. When I cut (all)  from Preview, and paste into Pages 5, nearly all formatting is gone. If you can add anything that I might be missing, I'd certainly like to hear it.

Thanks too, to Fruhulda, whose advice was perfectly correct, but not what I was hoping to hear.

I've already bought iWork 09 via the web, but if anybody has that magic formula . . . you know who to call.

Preview will let you get at the text but nothing else.

iWork '09/Pages '09 is your best bet. Avoid Pages 5 unless you simply don't care about all the missing features and bugs:
