Q: Final Cut Pro X 10.1 Breaks Clip Analysis Playback on 2009 Mac Pro

Everything was going well until I upgraded, since then I've been down the rabit whole in trying to troubleshoot the problem.

Machine

Early 2009 Mac Pro Dual CPU Quad Core 2.26Mhz

20GB RAM

4 x Hard drives

3 x Nvida graphics cards

6 x 22" IPS LED Displays

When I'm in Final Cut Pro X 10.1 single window layout, any clip that is not in the storyline and I try to preview does not play correctly. The video stutters, but the audio is fine. If I put the viewer on another window, it works.

I've done every possible troubleshooting step, even to the point of re-installing my whole system twice and removing every possible 3rd party conflict.

The upgrade doesn't like something with Nvida and the multiple video card/display setup.

Someone at Apple please look into this, it's real pain, especially after just purchasing this expensive piece of software.

Mac Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

FCPX has never supported multiple graphics card. The new version only supports multiple graphics cards in the new Mac Pro.

Confused. Can you elaborate a bit more on support? Are you meaning GPU utilization?

I was running FCP X 10 perfectly on my current setup prior to the upgrade. Running on one monitor worked fine. Now I'm forced to work on two montiors if I want to do anything at all after upgrading to 10.1.

FCP X always supported "Show Events or Viewers on Second Display."

Also, if I move FCP X to other monitors, it works fine on most of them, where the Main center display won't work anymore. Even if it's the secondary viewer display. If I play timeline video, and not clip analysis, it works fine for the most part.

    Does this make sense?

It works fine on a single monitor using a single graphics card. Most likely the new version is not handling the multiple graphics in your machine properly. You might try it with a single graphics card and see how it works.

I did that, and it does work fine, just a little inconvienet having to crack open the case and remove two video cards everytime I want to use FCP X.
