DFU mode is not officially recommended by Apple, but very often it is the only method that helps recover a bricked iPad.

Think of it as a super recovery mode.

That didn't work either unfortunately but thank you. Tried dfu, restore, recover mode all via iTunes and a factory reset via WiFi and it still has the same issue after the update yesterday. I try to download a shared document over 100mb from box.com and the browser just crashes. It's still under 12 month warranty so it looks like I'll have to take it back.

iOS 7 was designed for iPad air. Earlier generation iPads suffer for the update. My iPad 4 will never be the same since I took the update when it first was offered. I cannot go back to iOS 6, and as a result, pages load at a true snails pace. Earlier iPads are degraded by accepting iOS 7. My wife's iPad 4 with iOS 6 is lighting fast. My iPad 4 with iOS 7 is terrible!

What should I then say about my trusty iPad 2 running iOS 7?

I have absolutely no adverse effects on my iPad 2 since I upgraded it to iOS 7!

No iOS crashes, no slowdown, no increased battery drain.

Same, everyone I know on various devices has no issue, my partner has it running on her iPad 3 no problem and a friend has it in his mini. It's only my mini 2 and it seems a small number of other users who are having this extremely frustrating issue.

Do you have any other ideas apfelwurm? Some setting or something similar? It crashes every time I attempt a larger document download without fail, but I can browse with much fewer crashes?

Perhaps there is an issue with your iPad's settings.

Start by resetting the settings and preferences on your iPad:

Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

The data on the iPad is not affected, but you will have to enter your favorite settings and preferences again, including the password for your Wi-Fi router.

Next you may also want to reset the network settings and other settings.

If any of this works, make a backup of your iPad immediately.

These settings are also backed up in a backup.

Restoring from a faulty backup would therefore also restore the faulty settings.

If all of this does not help, start a new discussion to reach other iPad users with better ideas.

I would say good for you, of course. And my sister's iPad 4 with iOS 7 works just fine. The techs at the Apple Store could not speed my iPad up at all. It does seem to be a spotty thing. I'm far from alone, but it's far from 100% of people who are in my situation. I'm no tech or geek. I had the "pros" work on it. My iPad has behaved like I had a dial up connection ever since the update, which I took when first offered. I still use my iPad, but it is not the devise I had before ios7. But, I cannot explain why everything tried has failed so far. High jack is not a factor with me. Yes, it crashes too often, but that comes in streaks. The longest lasting of the problems since the update has been the snail pace loading pages with Safari. I can't say Chrome is any better. Just seems like I have a dial up devise.

OK, now we are getting closer to the truth.

It is not your iPad that is slow, but more than likely your network connection.

    That is a different problem.

Have a look at this in-depth troubleshooting guide for Wi-Fi:

Since IO7 on our iPad2 we can also reproduce the error in Safari; if I am on certain webites and zoom the text to fullscreen Safari terminates and closes. As it is reproducable and an error that seems to be around everywhere (if you google safari chrash ios7) I dont think resetting or restoring the iPad will help.

Just for the record, it's not just Safari that crashes. I also use Chrome on my new iPad Air and it crashes, too, in exactly the same way. I got my new iPad Air because my old iPad crashed like this 4 or 5 times a week; my new one crashes 20 or 40 times a DAY, and seems to be getting worse. And they say only apps developed by the 'govmint' (eg Obamacare) have "glitches"...

Same here. Had the problem since Day 1 of iOS 7, on iPad 2, iPhone 5, and now iPad Air. It seems to get worse rather than better, and I'm still waiting for a fix.
