You cannot select all in the Mail window, but you can select Edit, then tap each email, then after all are checked choose Delete...then tap Mailboxes, select the account, Trash, Edit, Delete All and confirm Delete All and the batch will delete permanently. You get to essentially select all when in the mailbox trash window.

Sorry I should have been more specific. I have a strong aversion to selecting many hundreds of emails one by one. Is the no solution to this seemingly basic issue.

Unfortunately, no...there is not a select all capability in iOS Mail. This has come up several times and all one can suggest is giving Apple feedback about this need.

The only way that works with unjailbreaked iPhone with IOS 7 for who has thousands of messages is delete the e-mail accounts in Settings and add the same account again.
The tip that are in some forums is: Select the first message, hold the move and unselect the message, .... However, it doesn't works. It seem that move the messages to dump folder, but all them get back again, in few seconds!
