Q: Macbook Pro Retina does not recognize Apple Cinema Display camera

Hello all,

I recently upgraded from a 17" Macbook Pro to a 2012 Macbook Pro Retina.  I have the retina laptop sitting on my desk with the lid closed and an Apple 24" Cinema Display connected via one of the thunderbolt ports and it works fine, except for the camera on the display will not activate.  When I go to launch an application such as photobooth, I get a message in the photobooth viewer indicating that the camera is turned off.  I know the camera is recognized becuase it shows up in the apple system profiler.

I am thinking this could be because the port on my new Macbook Retina is a thunderbolt port and not a mini display port like it was on my former 17" Macbook Pro, but I am not 100% certain on this.  If so, that could be why photobooth is detecting the camera but reporting that it is turned off.  In otherwords, perhaps it is detecting the camera on the Macbook with the lid closed rather than the camera on the 24" Cinema Display.

Does anybody know if there is a way to get the camera on my 24" Apple Cinema display to work while hooked to my Macbook Pro Retina via thunderbolt with the lid closed?  Has anybody else gotten this to work on their setup?

All help greatly appreciated!

Omar
