What version of firmware is installed now?
What model number of Time Capsule?
What operating system are you using on your Mac?

Dec 29, 2013 2:32 PM in response to Paul Eccby Bob Timmons,Thanks for the info.
I understand that you cannot get to the Time Capsule to see what firmware is installed, but we still need to know what version of AirPort Utility you are using.
Please open AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Utility menu in the upper left corner of the screen (next to the Apple icon) and then click About AirPort Utillty and post back with the version number that you see there.
Your second post indicates that you likely have far more issues than firmware.
We can only tackle one issue and one product at a time. Where to begin?

Dec 29, 2013 3:11 PM in response to Paul Eccby Bob Timmons,OK thanks.
Temporarily, connect a spare Ethernet cable....any length will do......from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule.
Restart the Time Capsule and your Mac
Can AirPort Utility "see" the Time Capsule now?

Dec 29, 2013 3:50 PM in response to Paul Eccby Bob Timmons,★HelpfulUnfortunately, we have seen a lot more problems with "disappearing" products in Mavericks than in Lion and Mountain Lion.
See if the steps in this support document will help the Time Capsule to appear again. Apply the steps for both Wi-Fi and Ethernet and then restart the Mac again after the changes.
Then try AirPort Utility again.

Jan 1, 2016 6:57 AM in response to Paul Eccby aepdev, this thread is useless and is ranked as firs in searches for "update timecapsule firmware".
Is there a curator at apple that cares enough to answer this question or point this thread to the answer?

Jan 1, 2016 7:07 AM in response to Paul Eccby Bob Timmons,The user who posted the original question over 2 years ago was having problems with the operating system on his Mac.....which prevented him from being able to access basic settings on the Time Capsule.
This is a user to user support forum. We are all users here, just like you. Apple is not here, and they will not reply or respond here.
Rather than post to an inactive 2+ year old thread, I would suggest that you start a new post for your question. Much has changed over the past two years.
Include information about what version of the operating system your Mac is using and what model of Time Capsule or AirPort router you might have.
