Q: Post Mavericks (server) upgrade, vpn has stopped working.  Any suggestions?

I upgraded by Mac mini server to Mavericks (including the server update). Now the VPN has stopped working.  Pre update I used the vpn for my MacBook Air, iPad and iPhone.  Now nothing works.  I've checked my router (Apple) and it appears to be set up appropriately to pass VPN traffic. Any ideas?

Disable Universal Plug and Play (UPNP) on the router.  Some routers are setting up UPNP connections for back to my mac that interfere with the port forwarding for NAT with vpn.

I tired this and still not working.  I have disabled bac to my mac in icloud settings but I see that remote management is still enabled  (vnc) and so is file sharing in sharing and printer sharing.

Have you disabled UPNP using your router's web interface?  Its a setting on the router not the mac or iCloud.  I had to turn this off on my Netgear router for VPN inbound from external to work correctly.

Yes I disabled this in the routers web interface.  I appreciate the advice though because it was enabled.

Success here - update fixed my external L2TP connectivity, no PPTP or Directory Accounts required. Of course, now I have to decide if I switch back to OS X Server or keep using my home-rolled Debian/racoon/IPSEC VPN server. It's more to maintain, but it's also a lot faster and has proper support for DNS default domain names.

I was finally able to resolve my problem by rebooting my modem. Now however if I make a change in the VPN settings I have to again reboot my modem.  I don't think this is normal and is quite annoying however at least I have my VPN up and running.

Installed Mavericks last night. PPTP VPN that worked prior to upgrade fails to connect. I ran Disk Utility and chose Repair Disk Permissions. After completion VPN works.

I was having similar issues = Mavericks with Server 3 won't allow iOS VPN. Found this: Native iOS L2TP VPN not working on Lion Server and removed special characters from the shared secret. Now everything's working! I'm so relieved.
