Nov 5, 2011 10:32 AM in response to Subboss85by Tom Wolsky,Is this the first clip you're putting in the project? The highest project frame rate is 60fps. What exactly is the dialog that appears? What are you trying to output? 120fps is not a format used by anything for delivery. Set the project frame rate to whatever you want to output, 29.97, 25. Then try putting the clip in the timeline. Use the Retime>conform function to make slomo.

Nov 23, 2011 5:06 AM in response to Subboss85by CIANCIO.mov,i am a new mac owner and now use fcpx, im also interested in buying a gopro hero 2. i like to use alot of slow mo shots so the 120 fps sounds ideal to me. have you figured it out how to get the 120 yet? the foot from my sony v1u imports at 29.97 i think and seems a bit choppy.
if you can only get 60 out of it how does that look to you when slowed down to 50% and 25%. clean? i wouldnt mind doing some super slow mo action stuff so any help would be nice.

Nov 23, 2011 7:42 AM in response to CIANCIO.movby Subboss85,I ended up importing the clip inot a project at 29.97 and then was able to slow it down substantially with out it getting too choppy. As for the 60 it starts to get noticeably choppy around 40% (which makes sense, really).
But also, I found that gopro.com has free software available on the site that allows you to slow the clip down, rotate it, if you had the camera mounted differently, overlay your images (with the 3D attachment case) etc. Works great. However, the GoPro Hero2 shoots 120fps in standard def. NOT IN 720p and in low light it can get pretty grainy. I am not complaining. It is still great, and for the price it is unbelievable. Also all the aspect choices in 1080p at 30fps is so much better than the Hero1 HD.

Nov 24, 2011 5:16 PM in response to CIANCIO.movby Tom Wolsky,I don't think Subboss85 said that it couldn't be edited.
You can do the slomo and rotate in FCP.

Nov 24, 2011 5:30 PM in response to CIANCIO.movby Tom Wolsky,The point of shooting 120fps is not to edit at that frame rate. You can put it in a standard frame rate project and it will run at the frame rate of the project. The point is to put it in a project that's a standard frame rate like 29.97, and then conform it and it will be in slow motion.
I can't test the media but if Subboss85 says he can get it into FCP then it should work.

But Tim Wolsky is correct. If you set your project at 29.97 before you start editing the project and then drag the clips in, they will conform to 29.97 and be able to slow down. I also like it in Final Cut becasue it is preset to ramp up and down into slow motion. Meaning, if you only want part of your clip in slomo, you select the Range tool, highlight that section and slow it down. Final Cut has an algarithm that does a slight ramp down to slow mo, so it isn't jarring. Very cool.
The gopro software will allow you to slow it down to the appropriate frame rate then export it as the longer, full slow motion clip. It's more exact than final cut, becasue it doesn't work in percentage, but you do lose flexibilty.
I shot some footage the day I got the camera and slowed it down in Final Cut. I will upload and post it to the thread, if you are curious on the end result. It's just grainy, becasue it was dark and indoors, but you will get an idea of the smoothness of the effect.
Hope this helps.

Dec 30, 2013 4:26 AM in response to Subboss85by RorySteel,It is annoying. You have to use the GoPro software and expect the clips slowed down to 30fps (effectively 25%) then import then to FCPX and then use retime (400%) to get it back to Realtime. I know people are saying there is no point as it will only export to 30fps but I, like others, what the option to slow the clip down in the future without losing any if the original frames. Surely now the iphone5s has 120fps this will be fixed!?

Dec 30, 2013 4:53 AM in response to RorySteelby Tom Wolsky,You imported this into 10.1 or an earlier version? I can import 120fps into 10.1.
