Q: Can't import images using iCloud on iPad and Mac

Yes. I have followed the "easy" instructions of the Apple site for setting my up my icloud account and sign in with both devices. Yes I have seen every imaginable youtube video of how to's and followed the steps.  I am connected to the internet, signed in with icloud in both devices, ticked automatic upload of photos, photo sharing, etc. Now where do I find the images? are they automatically imported NO and if I enter icloud from the internet can I see my images NO!

and if i followed the easy steps to import them using iphoto, it just says something stupid like "import the photos" yeah...how???!!

and sign in with both devices.

What kind of devices? I assume one is your iPad as stated in your signature, and the second one? an iPhone or a Mac?

Let's assume the secon device is a mac.

iCloud will stream any new photos you have taken from your iPad to iCloud and the Mac will download it, if you enable iPhoto on your Mac for iCloud. iCloud will only store the most recently added photos in the stream (from the past month), not all your photos.  So when you enable iCloud, it will not automatically upload all your pictures. Have you tried taking a new picture with your iPad and looked in iPhoto at the Photo Stream?  Set up the  iPhoto preferences  this way:

    Screen Shot 2013-12-23 at 11.09.50GMT+1.png

You recent iPad photo should appear in "My Photo Stream". You don't import from the Photo Stream using the the Import panel. You either enable automatic import, then the Photo Stream photos will appear in monthly events "december 2013 Photostream" or similar, or you save them from the Photo Stream albums in the iCloud section of the iPhoto Source List.

    What is your iPhoto version?

You need an iPhoto version that is compatible with Photo Stream, see the FAQ:   iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ

And for basic Trouble Shooting check the issues described in this support article:  iCloud: Photo Stream Troubleshooting

I have an Ipad2 and a Macbook pro, latest software versions downloaded today.

As I mentioned I have tried all the steps. Yes, I know it only uploads new photos, which is why i have this complaint, i have made many trials taking photos with my ipad and nothing, they simply dont appear. I am online in both devices, logged in with apple ID and have enabled automatic box ticked for icloud. Othe fact is when i go to the icloud.com the photos are not there either. I made an album on the ipad and "shared" manually the photos for icloud and nope, it doesnt work.  If I wanted download manually the photos to iphoto I cant I cant because the icloud icon doesnt appear in the left menu of iphoto like the one you are showing, it doesnt display either a shared button like the one you have in your screen and it doesnt explain at all how to import images. So, is not as easy as they show on the mac site, should i manually install icloud on iphoto? or why is this so complicated?

I have an Ipad2 and a Macbook pro, latest software versions downloaded today

Which software versions exactly? "latest" may depend on your hardware. MacOS X10.9.1)? iPhoto 9.5.1?.

Othe fact is when i go to the icloud.com the photos are not there either. I made an album on the ipad and "shared" manually the photos for icloud and nope, it doesnt work.

How did you share the album?

    • You can share to a shared Photo Stream and publish that stream as a public webpage on your iCloud webpage. Is taht what you have done? Then you need to use exactly the url, that is given, when you publish the webpage. It is not linked on your iCloud page.

If I wanted download manually the photos to iphoto I cant I cant because the icloud icon doesnt appear in the left menu of iphoto like the one you are showing, it doesnt display either a shared button like the one you have in your screen and it doesnt explain at all how to import images.

Let's compare the settings on your Mac:

In System Preferences - you say you are signed into iCloud, o.k.

Did you enable the options for "Photos"?

    Screen Shot 2013-12-23 at 16.46.34GMT+1.png

Check, if bot "My Photo Stream" and "Photo Sharing" are enabled.

    Screen Shot 2013-12-23 at 16.47.02GMT+1.png

Otherwise iPhoto will not show the iCloud options.

In iPhoto you should see the iCloud panel I posted as a Tab in the iPhoto Preferences panel.

(My screenshots are done in iPhoto 9.5.1 and MacOS X 10.9.1)

Mac book pro, version mac   0Sx, 10.7.5. Iphoto 9.2, the new version is 15usd! apparently is not free even though I have a mac and an ipad.

I dont know anything about icloud share thing and I really couldnt care less to have an aditional FB type of thing. I only want to import my photos and because the software is stupidly sleek of course nothing is explained. I thought this would import my photos.

When I open icloud app does not show the option button you have on your right. Also, if I go to the help section it shows a message saying "if you want to update iphoto click this button" and is not activated.

I really think is so misleading the way apple communicates their products like is very easy. Is not. If you need tutorials, forum discussions, etc, then something is obviously wrong. Screen Shot 2013-12-26 at 2.31.03 AM.png

    version mac   0Sx, 10.7.5. Iphoto 9.2,

With MacOS X 10.7.5 you cannot use shared photo streams. To be able to see the shared stream in iPhoto on the Mac you would need to update to Mavericks, 10.9.1 and iPhoto 9.5. Both updates are free.

With your recent iPhoto you should however be able to see the photos in "My Photo Stream" - in the "Recent" section of your Source List:  What does it show there?

Your Mac is not up to date, download Maverick (10.9.1) from the App Store and install it.

    Backup first

Thank you very  much! this really helped. I'm sorry that I sounded really grumply, I really was. The thing with  mac products is that in their effort to make a sleek looking platform they forget to say simple things like make sure you have the updated version or click here to download. I spent so much time trying to find out how to update the software when supposedly it does it automatically.

I appreciate everyones patience and time. Thanks for your help

Glad it worked, and now, in order to have updates applied automatically do this:

Open System Preferences>App Store and set the checkboxes like this.

    Screen Shot 2013-12-30 at 11.22.28 AM.png

Note that this for updates, there are also occasional upgrades (10.7.2 to 10.7.3 is an update, 10.7.2 to 10.8.or 10.9 is an upgrade)

Upgrades are user choices, just like installing 10.9. was for you
