Q: Why can't I get my iCloud calendars showing up on iCal Mavericks?

On my MB Pro, I can see my icloud email, contacts no problem.  iCloud calendar is a different story, I start up iCal and it gets stuck with "Updating Calendars" and nothing shows up.  If I add my iCloud account within iCal, it freezes the app and I have to force quit.  Things I've tried

- Signing out of iCloud from sys preferences, then signing back in.

- Checking to be sure my iCloud cal is accessible from the web and other devices, it is.

Any ideas?  I can't believe I'm the only one to have run into this.  Thanks all.

Quit Calendar. Instead of signing out of iCloud, try unchecking the box to sync in iCloud preferences. Open Calendars and try to add the iCloud account. If successful, go back to iCloud preferences and reselect sync.

Thanks, Eric.  Problem is that Calendars is unchecked in iCloud prefs.  If I try to add it either from there, or from iCal, I get the spinning beach ball and have to force quit iCal (or system preferences).  There's something really odd going on here!

I also have this a variant of this problem - everthing in iCloud syncs fine except calendars. When I check preferences to look at the accounts the calendar is unchecked. When I check the box the beach ball spins and the systems UNCHECKS the box.

Many other iCloud devices working fine with iCloud just my new iMac won't behave

    Any thoughts anyone?

I ended up fixing it.  Here's what I did:

    - Deleted the iCal preferences file (com.apple.ical.plist, in your library folder under your user name...not the main library folder)

    - Rebooted

That seemed to unstick this, and my system then recognized the calendar option as selected for iCloud, and iCal worked fine.
