This is not helpful....
Why not? You didn't want to spend the rest of your life reading every article ever written about the issue that TMM could dig up and splatter at you? Geez... I don't blame you.
Check this first. Go to Settings>General>Date and Time>Set automatically>On. Make sure that the time zone is correct as well.
If that was set OK, try restarting the iPad and if that didn't help, try resetting the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Dec 31, 2013 7:54 PM in response to Demoby richeich,Thank you, Demo. The time set to 'automatic' trick did it for me (ours was off). Not sure how that got changed, or why iMessage suddenly decided it didn't like that. I found this thread after a quick internet search, trying to fix the wife's iPad. Your help is very much appreciated. Cheers.

May 24, 2014 3:41 PM in response to Chloe157by Rjohns05,Auto date and time setting, followed by restart, fixed mine too. Note, the "time zone" is still not done (searching), but after a reboot, with "set automatically" selected, my messaging started working again.
