Dec 30, 2013 12:51 PM in response to victripby varjak paw,★HelpfulThe iTunes Store sells only what the artist and record companies will allow the store to sell. If there is content not available, its by choice of whoever holds the rights, and if that entity previously allowed sales but later retracts the license, there's absolutely nothing Apple can do but comply and remove the content from the iTunes Store. Contact the record companies and artists and complain to them.
Regards.

Dec 30, 2013 8:27 PM in response to varjak pawby victrip,Thanks for letting me know. I noticed that the UK store had all of Pete Townshend's catalogue. I take it that the agreements are based on countries and licensing. Thank you for the response.

Dec 30, 2013 8:39 PM in response to victripby roaminggnome,Itunes does not do this.
The owners of the distribution rights to the songs in each country decides what they will allow itunes to sell.
Why would you think this was itunes choice? -
Dec 30, 2013 8:48 PM in response to roaminggnomeby victrip,I assumed that Apple negotiates what it sells on its store and at some point it sold all of Pete Townshend's catalogue as and now they don't. The UK store sells his catalogue. Also they did sell an album of the Kinks, Somethine Else, and it was just taken off. As a customer, consistency is quite important. I know there are reasons for everything yet I am disappointed yet I understand.

You take it correctly. The rights are country-by-country, so the holder in one country may grant rights to sell the content while the holder in another country denies them. This is actually quite common and can be due to all sorts of things, most often that the rights holder in a given country signs some sort of exclusive deal with a single store.
Again, this is not something Apple has any control over. They would much prefer to be able to offer all content in all countries, but that's not up to them.
