Q: I moved country, changed iTunes stores and now my Apps can't be updated!?

Hi,

I know about how to change country etc for purchases in iTunes, this isn't about that.

I had a UK iTunes account and bought apps there.
I've now moved to Australia and changed my iTunes account to Australia using an Australian credit card, and I've bought some apps here.

iTunes is telling me that I have a bunch of Apps I can update, though when I go to update them it says there's none available.

I've gone to the UK iTunes Store and clicked update, and there they are - but they won't download as I need to change my billing info again.

So, here's the question - is iTunes actually that limited that one account can only have one credit card linked to it?

I live permanently in Australia now, but have purchased over 100 Apps while in the UK... am I right in saying that every time I want to update an app I have to fill out all my UK credit card and billing information, update, then fill in all my Australian billing details again when I want to switch back to the Australian store... over and over again for the rest of my life!?

I understand some Apps won't be available in one country VS the other, that's not the problem here. This is with worldwide available apps - I can see the apps in the Australian store, but because I've bought them in UK I can't update them in Australia.

I used to need to update all apps from the old country only through my iPhone/iPad too. iTunes would tell me there were updates but I couldn't actually download them through iTunes.

However as mentioned above, this has been fixed with an iTunes update and now I only use iTunes for updating my apps, and have never had any issues anymore with updating apps. It doesn't matter in which country they were bought, they now all update through iTunes.

The issues disappeared with iTunes 11.0.4.4 and have been gone since.

Hello, i'm planning to move to Australia next year and I have an iphone with plenty of apps purchased in Italian App Store. Is it easy to change the store to Australian one and move all the purchases there or i might have some problems with updates?

EDIT: never mind, i've just read the above posts. Thanks

Yes, that works. I moved from Netherlands to Australia and have apps purchased in both stores. You will never be able to move apps between stores due to legal issues. However you can freely download updates for all apps you bought anywhere, or re-download the apps from the Australian store for free, if you need to. (even though it will probably show a price, if you buy it again, you will get a message that is is actually for free)

Is it possible to change store but kepping the credit card by another city?  Or every store means having residency and credit card in the same country?

    Dear Paul,

Thank you for sharing this method as it seems to be the most convenient from my point of view. However, could you please precise whether all the apps from different appleIDs are accessible on the iPhone at the same moment? I mean, the new apps from the new ID will be added to the existing ones, aren't they? Also does this system work flawless in long run or you have experienced any difficulties?

I would really appreciate if you could help me with your answers!

Thank you in advance for your time and help!

    All the best!

    Hi All,

I've been using only 1 itunes account for the past 3 to 4 years and I keep moving between NZ and India so change my stores accordingly.

I was previously able to change my iTunes store to either India or NZ and purchase Apps and Music accordingly and download content relating to each location - I know this is the hard way of updating CC everytime I change but it worked for me.

Now, the problem is I had signed up for iTunes Match when I was in Indian Store. Now if I try to change my country and download content according to NZ store, it says that I need to cancel my iTunes Match subscription which I still have 9 months left. I am now unable to change my countries to download Apps and Music that I purchased in the NZ store.

    Any suggestions??

your help will be really appreciated.

    Thanks.

I can't understand why people don't have everything they buy from Apple on a local hard drive.  Items can be pulled from the store without notice and then you cannot redownload them, period.  I wouldn't rely upon the iTunes Store being my backup for my purcahses. Your solution is to buy a hard drive and make sure you always have a copy of all purchases on it so you don't need to redownload from Apple itself except as a convenience.

Your short term solution will be to contact Apple and cancel Match, but especially in your position it sounds like you need to change how you use the iTunes Store and related services to work with frequent moves.

Purchases made in one country, then Apple has implemented verification cards in the region. When changing the region emerges from the AppStore account. For each shift region takes money. The shopping list is visible only in the active region.

No money is taken when you change countries.

A temporary hold of $1 (or equivalent) is placed on the credit card to verify it is valid.

The hold is removed, usually within 24 hours. This is done anytime a CC is placed int eh account, not just because you are changing countries.

Exactly the same problem for me (UK store and Spanish Store) and after 3 days of trying to find a solution whilst following all the tips on this thread I solved my problem with the help of Apple email support by: Signing out of all app stores on all my devices.  I then logged into Apple Store UK via a web browser, then view account, signed in again and then pressed the edit button which allowed me to change country back to UK, address back to UK address and credit card details associated with that address.  Then when signing back in on devices, told me my account was not valid in Spain and automatically sent me to UK store. Will never change stores again.......
