Q: DSL+AIRPORT EXPRESS "N"+OLD AIRPORT EXPRESS

Hello,

I want to do the AirPlay.  For that I bought the new AirPort Express. But to set up a network I need the DSL and stereo next to the AirPort Express. Can't do that.

My DSL is in location A

My stereo equipment is on location B

I have a 1st gen AirPort Express and an old macbook for setting this device if needed

Can I connect the audio to older AirPort Express and have it join the new AirPort Express so I can do the AirPlay?

Or, is there a way my new AirPort Express can connect to the DSL without a wan cable so I can place it near the stereo equipment?

I want to stream music to remote speaker and use the internet at the same time, and all the needed devices are in different rooms.  So what do I do?

AirPort Express "n"

AirPort Express 1st gen

iMac + Maverics

Macbook + Leopard

iPhone 5

iPad 2 gen

Thank you

Ricardo

    Yes.

Although you can have the "old" AirPort Express join the network provided by the new 2nd generation 802.11n Express, I would recommend the following network configuration for the best potential bandwidth:

    • Connect 2nd generation Express to DSL modem using an Ethernet cable. Configure this Express to provide your Wi-Fi network.
    • Configure the "old" Express to join this Wi-Fi network as a wireless client for the purpose of streaming over AirPlay.
    • Connect the appropriate audio cable between the "old" Express' audio port and the stereo.

Well, with a few clicks here and there, I have manage to reconfigure the first gen base station and now AirPlay is working "better than expected".  Now my issue is volume.  The system sound louder than before and volume is now controlled 'thru' iTunes.  Even at the minimum volume, it sounds loud.  My remote speakers are connected to an amplifier (not a receiver), which means that iTunes is my only volume knob.

So, volume works. Its just loud at 1-2 and super loud at 8-9

What are your thoughts on this one?

Cheers and thanks for your help.
