I have a new iMac with Mavericks (there are no data I need to back up) and simply want to install Snow Leopard,
please how can I do it? I have the original SL dvd but I don't have any dvd reader to connect to iMac.
Thank you for your help!
You cannot install an OSX older than the one that the machine came installed with. Sorry.

Daphos ~ To understand why you shouldn't install Snow Leopard on your new iMac, see this Apple doc:

Also be aware that the article is over 20 months old and the past 3 OSXs have not come on Discs. They are reinstalled by holding down the Command and R keys on startup and reinstalling from the recovery partition. You Mac will only recognise Mavericks, though.

Mavericks comes with the latest drivers for the (then) latest iMacs. So if you were to install Snow Leopard, then the drivers for your new iMac would be missing on the dvd.
If you know that you can run Snow Leopard on your (older) machine then you can still purchase Snow Leopard on the Apple website, namely here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

I have a MacBook Pro(mid 2011) that I installed Mavericks on and I want go back to SnoLeop using the original disk but can't. I get the message I can't upgrade to this version. Obviously I'm not upgrading, but is there a way to go back to SLeop?? This is very disconcerting.

Actually I did and it stiil wouldn't boot. I ended up partitioning the HD and was able to get it to boot. Whatever.
Good. All solved for you then.
