Q: Faces from iPhoto for setting a contact picture not working (Mavericks bug?)

The expected way how to use Faces for getting a picture of a person to a Card in Contacts is described here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH15074

However, since I updated from 10.8.5 to 10.9.1 this does not work for me any more. Contacts does not allow to set a "contact picture" by selecting Faces.

My iMac is at 10.9.1 with iPhoto 9.5.1 and Contacts 8.0

Although there are more than 200 Faces defined in iPhoto that are linked to a Contacts Card (and which contain an unique Email address that is displayed in iPhoto), in Contacts there is only the message displayed:

"Loading Faces ...", and then (after quite some time):

"Find and organize photos of people in iPhoto or Aperture using Faces".

I did some of the obvious things:

- trashed /Users/USERNAME/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist

opened iPhoto with Alt+Cmd pressed an

- let iPhoto do Repair Permissons,

- let iPhoto do Rebuild Thumbnails,

- let iPhoto do Repair Database,

- let iPhoto do Rebuild Database.

After each action, I checked if Contacts would offer me Faces for selection, but nothing did solve the problem.

Any ideas?

Or is there a bug in Mavericks that kills this option?

If it was a bug then we would all be seeing the problem.

    Cheers

Thanks, petermac87. It seems that selection Faces in Contacts works for you.

So the questions is why this option is gone on my iMac, and what can be done to fix the problem?

It still could be a "conditional" bug, for example if this option is "killed" in Mavericks if one uses two iCloud accounts to sync contacts - like I do.

(Such a conditional bug did affect Mail.app in 10.8.x when using autocomplete for mail-to addresses.)

    Update:

I did a clean install of 10.9.1, downloaded iPhoto newly from the App store, and copied my iPhoto library from the backup to the Pictures folder.

Unfortunatly, this did not help! I still can not use the Faces option of Contacts for selection a contact's picture.

    Conclusion:

There is a problem with my iPhoto library, that is not fixed by the "Repair" or "Rebuild" options of iPhoto??

Does anyone know a better explanation?

(OK, the next thing to do tomorrow is to create a fresh (small) iPhoto library and see if this will work.)
