Q: reset apple id emails someone trying to hack my account

I am constatnly getting 'reset apple id' emails.

Yesterday I got a notification that someone in Taiwan had downloaded Throne Wars on another device not associated with my account - luckily a free download so I cahsnged my password straight away.

today so far I have had 7 emails about resetting my apple id.

Who do i report it to!? What can be done?

Thanks

I had the same email from itunes regarding download from Taiwan. Girl Town and Money Ok apps were downloaded to my account. I changed my apple id and password straight away so hopefully will not be hacked again.

Well, I've tried to work with customer services and they won't be cajoled, drawn, pushed or pulled into doing anything about this.

I regard this as a serious failing on their part. Their emails just keep reiterating security precautions which users should take: I've been through all of these and can't see how any passwords leaked from the client side.

I guess we just keep tabs on the situation and see if any more compromises happen - who knows, perhaps Apple have tracked down the issue and fixed it? The volume of compromised accounts with Taiwan downloads seems to be diminishing from the search results I have.

Apple's one-approach-fits-all culture of silence (by which i mean pleasant form-email) doesn't feel like a good fit for this kind of issue. It leaves the situation unresolved, with the user not entirely sure if they're safe or not.

I'm only thankful that this happened to my wife's account, not mine: 2 factor auth should be available to me in a day or so.

If anyone comes across this thread, and has a Taiwan-related unauthorised apple I'd use scenario, please add your story to it. At least if the posts die off we can *assume* the issue is as well.

I received a warning from app store when I wanted to connect and it turned out that yesterday someone had downloaded "Jeux concours: gagnez des cadeaux..." application by Louis Fernand yesterday at 2pm. I'm in France. As for now, I haven't received any e-mail from Apple indicated where the download was made from. Weird - looks like it's on Apple's side indeed...

    Happened to me too.

Apple ID used by unknown device in Taiwan to download Girl Town on 24th December 2013 -  nice Xmas present thank goodness I was looking at my emails.

I'm very careful with my security and feel Apple should have alerted ALL customers of this security breach and told them how to deal with it and that they are investigating it.

I just spoke to them and after being put through to the 2nd supervisor at UK head office in Ireland they said they ARE investigating it.

It's very worrying now that icloud uses apple id and links everything up. Potential for big problems.

Be great to hear if anyone know any further news on this.

Thanks for that; you're the first who has received word that investigations are underway. Did they say they'd get back to you at all?

Just adding that I have been compromised too, with "The Panic Room: Outrage" downloaded on the 29th. Pretty disappointed that we haven't received any information about this.

No they didn't say about getting back to me. They advised in addition to changing Apple ID password to also change email password as extra precaution.

I guess that's good advice, but did you actually see any activity on your email account which would suggest that your Apple ID was compromised via your email account?

I'm not being thick (well, thicker than usual) - just looking at these incidents from different viewpoints in an attempt to glean any useful information about the attack vector. My wife is convinced that since this isn't a massive attack with thousands of accounts compromised (or certainly doesn't seem to be, I haven't seen any media coverage at all), that this is actually a human-leak from inside apple in Taiwan somehow. That would be extremely scary, maybe worse than an electronic exploit. She's not a fan of outsourcing.

I'm not sure how anyone in Taiwan would get hold of Apple ID details, but you never know - maybe Apple has outsourced this to there, they get a lot of product built there, maybe they do back office work out there too...

Same thing happened to me. I emailed Apple straight away and they suspended my account. Just got round to talking to them via chat and they had someone call me straight away. I have my Apple ID account back but wasn't told how someone managed to use it. Got told to change my password and secruity question....

My account was used to download Kingdom CCG in Taiwan also.  Is this issue from Taiwan a relatively widespread problem?

I had the same problem - Kingdom CCG from Taiwan. Coincidentally, I recently installed the itunes on a windows PC. Maybe the developer of the game wanted to have people to try it out ;-)

When I searched for it, the app seemed to be free. Does that sound right?

The app itself is free, but I'm still concerned about in-app purchases.  Maybe I'm just being paranoid.
