Q: I too am getting the "Moving calendars to server account" pane when I open iCal

I too am getting the "Moving calendars to server account" pane when I open iCal. All fixes I have read seem to involve turning iCal off an on and/or rebooting. I cannot touch iCal. All is grayed out in iCal and in iCloud system preferences. I am using 10.8.5 and iCal version ... Well, that is grayed out too. Waiting a really long time does not seem to help.

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

melisolaris' comments work only if the option for unchecking the Calendars and Reminders is available.

For many of us in this post, this option was greyed out (even forced quitting and restarting, and then waiting for 30 sectonds).

Clearing the Calendar Cache enabled this option and then I could follow that of melisolaris.

    To clear the calendar cache

    1: Go to Finder

    2: Select Go Menu

3  Select Library Folder in the drop down menu (if you cannot find Library Folder then also press the option key while in this dropdown menu, the library folder should appear - then select it)

    3: Select the Calendar folder

4: Delete file named Calendar Cache

Once this is done then you can:

1: Close System Preferences (if its open)

    2: Open System Preferences

    3: Select iCloud

4: The Calendars & Reminders option(s) should now be available (not greyed out) for you to deselect

5: You man need to repeat steps 1-4 above

This worked for me and I really hope it works also for you, since I share your frustration with this error.

This stopped the annoying and show stopping message "Moving Calendars....." but my calendars still don't sync to iCloud and to my iPhone.  I have now spent many hours on this.  Removing the sync from my local server was not a good idea.

I have done that procedure several times. Knowing about this problem, I made first an export of Calendar archive, just to be sure.

    1. Force Quit Calendar

    2. Sign Out in iCloud

    3. Calendar is empty

    4. Import my Calendar archive

    5. As I have no connection, I have no Calendar updates between my different devices.

    6. Sign in iCloud again. I do not understand the advice to sign in separately with Calendars and with Reminders, as they are both together just one option.

7a. First Calendar becomes blank again.

7b. Then pops up the message "Moving calendars to server account…"

7c. I have 8 different calendars in my Calendar application. First calendar is restored… (about 30 seconds)

7d. Second calendar is restored… (about 30 seconds)

7e. … and that's it. Only the message "Moving calendars to server account…" with a turning cilinder, pretending it is still in action. Once I left it like that for 2 days, in vain.

My only "solution": keep Calendar signed out of iCloud and enter each agenda activity on each of my devices. Isn't that ridiculous?

Two of my calendars actually sync now without the hanging message.  The third calendar is though work and is a beehive calendar and it will not sync to iCloud and thus, will not sync to my phone.  So all work appointments sync between beehive and my mac but not to my phone which I'm foced use iCloud.  I refuse to put my contacts into iCloud.

Has anyone been able to sync a beehive calendar to their mac and then to iCloud and back to the iPhone?

This worked, but it cleared my calendar, but then when I clicked on it, it all came back. Thanks, Ann

Beehive has a simple way to sync to the iPhone (thanks to a co-worker for forwarding the link).  Sync is now working for the work calendar with immediate sync when a new appointment is made.  I can also accept the appointment from my phone.  All is well in SouthFlorida

I had the opposite resolution to melisolaris . I currently have Mavericks installed and I use the native Mail, Calendar, etc. apps for my company Google Account.

I then use iCloud for Contacts, Notes, Safari, Keychain etc. However, I decided I would enable Reminders in the iCloud panel and this is when my Calendar app got stuck showing the "moving calendars to server". It wouldn't budge from this spot unless I Force Quit the app. Unchecking Reminders from the iCloud panel resolved the issue for me.

I guess you cannot use Reminders with iCloud unless you use Calendars with iCloud as well. It has to be both or none at all.
