Q: Apple mail does not sync with gMail

Today my Apple Mail no longer provides me with my gMail in the inbox.

I can send mail to my gMail address and it shows in the Sent box ...but it never makes it to my Inbox.

If I log directly into Google Mail the email message is there.

This has always worked before.

Also, just now I downloaded and installed the Apple update for Mail ...which said it fixes some gMail account issues ..but I still have the problem.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Ok, after reading your comment about how good Thunderbird was, I went and downloaded it. I love it!! The layout and customization of it are much better than Airmail, and it's working flawlessly.

I wish I had tried it earlier—I could have saved myself a lot of aggravation. Thanks for the tip!

I may be detecting a pattern in what may be causing Apple Mail to hang and, even more importantly, how to unblock it.   My major annoyance is when my Apple Mail Inbox shows messages as unread when they should be deleted or shown as read because I have read/deleted them on my iPhone. This problem seemed to start once I added other accounts besides iCloud and Google.  Almost every time, when I open the Connection Doctor window, one of my other accounts has a red status.  In my case it is a GoDaddy IMAP account and Mail wants the security certificate to be verified or needs the password to be entered again.  Once I have all green status lights in Connection Doctor, after a few minutes, Mail updates correctly.

    Has anyone else encountered this?

I only have one account (Gmail) and I see the same problems you mention (mail not marked read or deleted after I read or delete on iPhone or iPad).

Unless the red dots are on the Gmail account they are not relevant.

In my case the situation got worst with the update. Sometimes syncs, sometimes doesn't. Once a group of mails doesn't sync, they remain at the inbox even if the full mailbox gets again in sync.

    I'm now trying Airmail!

I'm trying Postbox.   Seamless transition from Apple mail.

cripoli - please try this - it worked for me.

    Mail->preferences->accounts

Look at alias on icloud mail account. Set it to the alias ending with @icloud.com. My alias was set to the @me.com account.

Fixing icloud acct somehow fixed my gmail issue. My gmail began to download immediately after this change and has been working well for 4 days now.

Please let post if it works or not.

I am unclear what an iCloud email alias has to do with Gmail, could you explain?

I'm not wasting any more time with Apple Mail.  This is is ridiculous.  I have moved to Postbox and can't be happier.  When and if Apple fixes Mail, I may reconsider, but Postbox plays nice with icloud, gmail and other IMAP accounts.

Neither iCloud alias or the Connection Doctor did anything to fix my sync issues.  Completely frustrated.

That is because iCloud aliases have nothing to do with Gmail, and Connection Doctor is a diagnostic tool, not a fix it tool.

What did the Connection Doctor report say
