Q: MacBook Pro running really slow lately

It first started to be slow when I had the Mountain Lion installed, but lately after the Maverick install the login takes really long time and all applications take a lot of time to launch. I bought my Macbook Pro in November, 2010. It is a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3.

I read previous discussions about similar issues so I run Etrecheck as recommended and here is the result:

I appreciate all your input and help with this problem.

Get rid of 'Clean My Mac':

    Screen Shot 2014-01-05 at 4.06.46 PM.png

It is an unnecessary 'slow me down'.

Also I suggest installing 8 GB RAM.  OSX 10.7 and up really should have more that 4 GB RAM.

    Ciao.

CleanMyMac2 belongs to a broad category of time- and money-wasters capable of causing system corruption that can only be rectified by reinstalling OS X, restoring from a backup, or completely erasing your system and rebuilding it from the ground up. Get rid of it and test your Mac for operation. If it does not perform normally, the possibility that CleanMyMac resulted in system corruption must be considered.

According to its web site CleanMyMac2 is supposed to uninstall itself:

"The easiest way to completely uninstall CleanMyMac 2 is by using CleanMyMac 2 on itself.

To remove CleanMyMac 2 from your Mac:

    1. Open CleanMyMac 2.
    2. Proceed to the Uninstaller module.
    3. Find CleanMyMac 2 in the list of apps found by the module.
    4. Click Complete Removal in the Smart Selector panel to mark the application file and all it related items for removal.
    5. Click Uninstall.
    6. Confirm that you are going to remove the app in the newly appeared message.

    That's it!"

Apparently it may not be that simple though, as at least one user reported that it did not work, and required manual removal: Extreme Battery Drainage

Whatever damage it inflicted by it or similar programs apparently required more work to correct. In such cases an "erase and install" followed by laboriously migrating individual apps and files may be the most expedient solution.

Besides the must to uninstall CleanMyMac, there is more that you better remove.

I get mixed info on RogueAmoeba, why should you need that? Kernel extension are a risk always.

Same for the virtual CDrw kext.

Uninstall Adobe ResourceSynchroniser and remove it from the LoginItems.

You can remove the AdobePDFViewer plugin(s) from internet plugins.

    Same for the DirectorShockwave plugin.

Thank you All for your suggestions, I will do the modifications and report back. RogueAmoeba is for Airfoil. If I remove that kext it may not work?

I wouldn't use that. If you take the kext out it will not work.

PS: it will not work correcly, or not at all. Uninstall it.
