Q: Maps does not work

I recently upgraded to Mavricks, and at first Maps was great, but then it stopped producing maps.  What should I do?

Problem is related to the Dock ...

If you type in terminal: killall Dock

problems are gone and the maps are working again...

But like you are writing, it is working for a while, until the problem occures again ...

When you restart Dock again, it will help again for a while :-)

    Reported to apple. ..

Other procedures (restart, log off) helped too, because you are killing Dock.

This is actually helping. It seems part of a bigger problem. The maps are disappearing, if I use Remote Desktop 3.7 and hover the dock, the Remote Desktop screen is not refreshing anymore, it shows a frozen screen. Only when I change colors with the slider on the right top, the screen comes alive again. I just did "killall Dock", maps and Remote Desktop are working without these bugs again.

And sometimes I cannot fill in logins and passwords with 1password in Safari. After the "killall Dock" even this is working again. Always thought of a 1password bug and was wondering that I could't find a lot of information about it. But it seems finally also a dock bug.

Killing/restarting the Dock does not affect my Maps problem.  Neither does restarting the computer, logging out and back in, or anything else.

I was using "Legacy" FileVault as well and turned it off, also with no effect.

I've also tried removing the ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Maps folder.

Still, no data in the map window (except the blue location dot).

What do you mean restart the dock??

I don't understand how not seeing the graphics of the maps could be related to the Dock!!

Please reply and EXPLAIN??  I'm totally confused!!

open terminal and write: killall Dock

Dock restarts itself, and after maps working again :-)

Yes they are related to Dock, somehow ... :-)

I traced back to maps after in Calendar it was taking forever to find places & the preview pane in Calender for the map wasn't being shown (just grid).

I opened Maps and it shows the same thing.. nothing... can't search, doesn't do anything.

    Stymied.

I am not sure whether this would also work for you.

I used to have the same problem, but recently I got a tip from a blogger. According to this blogger, the map problem may have to do with DNS settings. I used to use Opend DNS so have to use their DNS addresses. When I used this setting, Maps app did not draw the map, just a grid or sometimes patches of maps with blurred images.

However, as soon as I got rid of this third party DNS addresses, Maps app has not experienced a single problem.

Whey don't you try to get rid of any user-defined DNS addresses from the Network settings.

    Hope this helps.

It's as if you read my mind.

It's weird as I was not having trouble until recently - no change in setup!

Open DNS was the cause of this. Darn.  I'm going to choose open DNS over maps on my laptop.

    Thanks though!

same problem here since i installed OSX mavericks. no images.  i wasted atleast 2 hours searching for info, numerous 'report a problem with maps' messages but no one called or bothered to answer from Apple.  love  apple and MAC with all my heart but terribly disappointed with maps.  not fixed yet.  can someone help?
