Q: iWeb Replacement

Is Apple going to be replacing iWeb anytime soon? I really don't like the the alternatives. Freeway Pro, Rapidweaver and Sandvox. I have them all and none do I like. Too many add on things in hopes of making a better page. Too much cost.

I really want iWeb or a new version now. iWeb is OK but limited now because of no further support.

Do you know the technical reason or changes that causes the new Explorer to malfunction. iWeb converts everything to common HTML. Leave it to Microsoft to screw it up. Internet Explorer is the worst browser ever created. I think you are wrong about that 90%. There are more Chrome and Firefox users than any others. I haven't seen the latest figures, but last I saw, Internet Explorer was around 11% of the browser pie. And it's getting smaller.

I just check my iWeb site on a new PC with IE 10 and it still works fine.

When the hard drive in my 2009 iMac (running Lion) died, I got a refurb 2012 iMac that came with Mountain Lion pre-installed. I installed my latest version of iWeb and it works like a charm. I never hosted with Mobile Me, I've always hosted with Blue Host and I use a free FTP, Easy iWeb Publisher. I love that iWeb is not just easy to use but once I learned how to customize it all, I loved it even more. I've tried all the free trials of the "alternatives" and don't like any of them but if I am forced to give up iWeb at some point, I'll probably go with Freeway Express or go to Wordpress, though as an artist, I really like having a real site that iWeb has enabled.

I love iWeb too. Unfortunately, Facebook launched soon after Apple came out with iWeb and they felt it was no longer needed. Just wanted to say I have used Freeway Express and find it very close to iWeb. Freeway Express gives you a few more options, such as creating a link for further down a long page, which iWeb does not do.

    I can't get my head around WordPress. But my head is old . . . . .

For iWeb I just start with a blank black or white page . . I love being able to tilt art and never use any of the templates. (http://newcollegepix.com/Intro.html) Long live iWeb!

OK, but what I don't understand is, why does Apple discontinue a software like iWeb which is unmatched in the ease of use. Why not make it an App for the App Store with a low cost price?

Apple folks, listen to your users!

If you had bothered to read the whole of this thread properly, you would know why Apple discontinued iWeb - iWeb was created specifically for MobileMe and one click publishing.  Once MobileMe went over a year and a half ago now, there was no further need for iWeb because iCloud does not offer web hosting services and Apple no longer sells iWeb and has not supported it for a very long time and has never sold iWeb in the App store and is never likely to now.

Have a look at Freeway Pro/Express as alternatives or EverWeb is very like iWeb, but with better features available.  (http://www.everwebapp.com).

As for Apple listening to you here - this is not going to happen - this is a public user to user technical support forum, so you'll need to send your feedback directly to Apple.  http://www.apple.com/feedback.

iWeb has gone and it never likely to come back so move on.

I thionk it would be GREAT if Apple offered some version of iWeb as an App! They just need to update it a bit. In fact, it works now so wouldn't take much..

Mobile Me never went over. If it had then it would still be here. I never used it, and never used it to host a website.

    iCloud COULD offer webhosting services.

Anyway, tco, I'm with you! Much rather have a website than a Facebook page. I hope Facebook goes the way of MySpace.

Thanks for the link Ethmoid . . I'll tell Apple they need to make a webpage app! Why not?

That is never  going to happen.  You can wish all you like, but it won't.  It has been nearly 2 years now since Apple stopped selling and supporting iWeb and they also stopped shipping iLife with new Mac's, so the fact that it has been this length of time must be telling you something?

As I said before, MobileMe and iWeb went together with iWeb being developed for this purpose.  It does not really matter whether iCloud could or could not offer web hosting.  The fact is that it does not and never will now.

It is now time to get over yourself and just move on to the various alternatives out there such as EverWeb etc, that are being actively developed and updated.

Why not?  Because it is not going to happen.  Time to stop whining and move on!

    Hey Ethmoid,

Why do YOU care if I want to dream about iWeb or something even better, being developed by Apple?

"Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers,  the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things  differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree  with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is  ignore them because they change things... they push the human race  forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius,  because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the  world, are the ones who do."

I'll dream if I want to. Thanks.

I don't really care and you can dream, but it is just totally unrealistic.

Whining and going on about it really aint going to change anything, so why continue posting about something that is not going to change?

    Dream on and move on!!

    Hey Ethmoid,

your comments really help me. I'm having the same problems with a website that I started with iWeb. If I switch to Everweb, do you know if it will be compatible with goDaddy.com?

    Thanks.

Everweb makes standard HTML web sites so it will work with any host including godaddy.

Yes, it will be compatible with GoDaddy.  Any html code should be compatible with any web host and EverWeb produces cleaner code than iWeb did, so yes, of course it will be compatible.
