As far as the external goes, if it is FAT32 then the Mac can write/read to it. Otherwise you will need to reformat and you will lose your data.

Jan 9, 2014 11:18 AM in response to pctomacproby Studio K,If you want to keep your drives 'as-is' (Windows format NTFS), then you can purchase Paragon Software's NTFS for OS X. It's only $20 for a single license and enables read and write capability in OS X when dealing with NTFS volumes.
This seems like a decent solution for the 3TB external, at least. No reformatting. No moving data around.

Jan 9, 2014 11:30 AM in response to pctomacproby Studio K,What kind of MAc do you have? This is the Mac Pro forum, so I would guess a Mac Pro. If so, which model? 2008, 2010, 2013?

Hard to imagine using 3TB that isn't NTFS. Mac uses GPT for default partition type as well as HFS+

Yes. You can change the File System from NTFS (windows) to HFS+ (mac) without erasing\moving your data. I think that feature is a part of Paragon Hard Disk Manager package.
I've never had the nerve to try doing that. It would be a very convenient solution but it would cost $40 for that software package versus $20 for the NTFS read/write program.
