Q: Deactivate GPS and ask Siri for Christianism, Judaism and Islam....

For the first two, you'll get an answer, but for Islam, your Idevice asks you to activate your GPS first.

Isn't this somehow discriminating? Or only a service for the NSA???

Can anyone from Apple Support explain this behaviour??? (i guess not)

Best Regards,

Muri

btw: I am atheist!

My guess is that Siri is "hearing" something other than "Islam". How are you phrasing teh quesiton?

Not sure what your being an athiest has to do with it.

    Hi -

Siri understands Islam correctly - you see it on the screen.

I was not really asking questions - in all three cases just saying the name of the religion - same for budhism for expample. For all other religions than islam, you get the Wiki page -

found it very curious when a friend showed me that today

Maybe just some NSA support - so only for our safety hehe

Just found out - that this behaviour is not the case when you have the system language in english - but in german and other languages the behaviour is as described above...

Or considering the number of potential hits for Islam in news sourses, just needs more to determine what source you are looking for.

On the other hand, my uise of Siri on those terms:

    • "Christianism" turns up a variety of results on differnet attempt. Not entriely surprising since it is actually a rather obscure term (and doesn't mean the same thing as "Christianity").
    • "Islam" returns a pretty long list of websites, including wiki, with information
    • "Judasim", pretty much the same.

This is regardless of the language settings.

actually i am located in germany -  so my siri gives me other results -

the phrases in german for the religions are:

    Christentum

    Judentum

    Buddhismus

    Islam

for the first three, you get as result from Siri the german Wiki site about the religions - just not for islam, where it asks you to activate your GPS first.

When i change the language to english and say Islam - it shows me the Wiki site too...

    Somehow strange

Maybe a syntactic error? Couldn't say.

Guess it's a programming error in the german Siri version.

Just realized that it tries to find Mosques in my near when i say Islam  -

therefore it logically needs the GPS...
