Q: Won't start up; charger blinking orange

Came home from work and went to turn on my late-2011 MacBook Pro. It won't start up. Nothing happens (no tone, no motor noise, nothing). When plugged in (MagSafe power charger that came with the unit) the charger unit blinks orange. Tried the charger on my other computer - works just fine. Tried 2 other MagSafe power chargers (from other Macs I own/have owned) and all act the same way with this computer, but work just fine with another Mac.

Anyone have any idea what's going on? I have owned Macs since 1988 (over the years I've owned a Macintosh II, Macintosh Performa, Power Mac, Power Book, and another MacBook Pro before this one). I've never had a problem like this one before...HELP!

[A side note: There have been NO spills, no tumbles, no falls, nothing to prompt any sort of issues....This was a completely RANDOM "dead" laptop!]

NO! unplug battery conector and plug back in again, no need to remove the battery. Just thought I would clarify, dont want someone taking out there battery for no reason

I'm having the exact same problem; my macbook pro won't start up and the magsafe light keeps flashing orange.
I'm not going to try to touch or remove anything even though it might be an easy fix, i'm just going to leave it as it is, take it to the apple store and take advantage of my applecare. I've only had this item since late October 2013, so it's only been 3 months and it's being faulty already. Whether it's an easy fix and they'll be able to sort it out within no time, I haven't paid £1500 to have a half working system. Apple better come up with something. What a farce...

You should if you are under warranty. It's a minor problem.

Just used this tip from dbartul - AMAZING.

words cannot literally express how happy I am!

Thought that I'd lost my work and my mac forever; but now currently writing this message from it!!!

I have to admit that I did use a cheap, 3rd party charger iphone cable (non-apple) to charge my phone from my mac to phone. BEWARE. NEVER USE THEM. they caused me to worrry nervously about my computer after it unexpedtedly shut down, and would not start up for many hours.

Thankfully dbartul's tip is really really simple.

For all those really nervous or a bit skeptical about opening up a computer - so was I (or should I say, my dad!!), but it was seriously as simple as anything.

    Very happy with this!

It basically reboots the machine, but nothing was/is lost, and the laptop had the windows open that I'd previously been using before it blacked out on me!!

Really cannot stress how much time and money this saved me!

Go ahead and do it - its really simple!

    Anna,

For me also, it was plugging in a non-apple approved iPhone cable that crashed the battery. I didn't realize that that was the cause and so I did it again and crashed it again. My post about it is a few pages back. The second time it seemed not to work but it turned out that you need to wait a minute or so befor plugging the battery back in. If you are timid about opening your computer, macsales.com and ifixit.com have video tutorials.

My problem was caused by a third party lead too: A 'Poundland' multi lead-- USB to 4 different connectors.

This was proven by the fact that I used the lead a second time and immediately my macbook died.. but was revived once again by the dbartul fix.

The lead is now in the bin.

    Scary stuff.

All I can say is, thank you! My computer went flatline in the middle of work and this brought it back.
