Q: MacBook Pro not shutting down correctly.

I have tried to shut down my computer mutilpy times and it wont after doing the update to mavericks. it goes into some type of sleep mode. even when i press the power button it doesnt show me the options like it used to, it goes into some time of sleep mode. i have also tried doing the manual shut down in the little apple icon menu. I just want it to come back to how it used to with the options when i press the power button! someone please help!
