Q: Mac mini and asus PB278Q display

I just got my new mac mini.
it is a 'late 2012'
I have a asus PB278Q display who has a max resolution of 2560x1440

But the resolution with mac mini is always 1920x1080
I tried also with an adapter minidisplayport -> dvi, same problem.
Is there a solution?

Thanks

Mac mini (Late 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Hello, with that high of rez you need the dual-link DVI adapter, 1920/1200 is max that Single-link DVI can do...

Not true. I have a 13-inch Mid 2007 MacBook (the black one). To it I have a Samsung SyncMaster 2343bwx 23" 2048x1152 monitor using a displayport to DVI connector. Handles the full resolution just fine.

    Apple says:

    13. How is the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter different from the Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter?

The Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter works best with displays that operate at dual-link resolutions, which are resolutions above 1920 x 1200. For displays that do not support dual-link DVI resolutions (displays that operate at resolutions of 1920 x 1200 or lower) you should use the Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter instead.

MJBird, I am not disagreeing with your experience just saying what Apple says

Besides VGA and D-Link DVI, doesn't that monitor also have a DisplayPort input...?

If so, then I think I would try a > Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable before forking out a $100 for a Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter.

I went back to the specs on my MacBook, and it doesn't have a DisplayPort. It has a mini-DVI. Apparently, despite what Wikipedia says http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface, it can support more than 1920 x 1280, since I'm going from the mini-DVI to HDMI (non-Apple) to an HDMI to DVI adapter on the monitor. I did it that way so I can switch between my MacBook and a Raspberry Pi which does HDMI. When I fire up the Pi, my monitor complains it's running at a non-optimal 1920x1280. But when I'm connected to my MacBook (running Lion. I didn't like Mountain Lion and it's too old to run Mavericks) my control panel shows the 2048x1152 resolution. So now I'm confused... However, I'm gonna get a Thunderbolt to dual-link DVI adapter to use on this monitor to use with a new mac mini I'm going to buy...

    Hi MJBird,

Have you succeeded in conneting your new macmini with the Thunderbolt to dual-link DVI adapter? Does it support 2560x1440 resolution? I also purchased this adapter today. Wil see how it works with my Asus PB278Q Display.

Well, this is what I have running right now, and it's beautiful:

I have a mini-displayPort (aka Thunderbolt) to displayPort cable to go from my mac-mini to my ASUS. I then have a HDMI to Dual-Link DVI adapter on my Samsung. I'm driving both monitors at their full native resolution, and I am able to watch full frame-rate 1080p on either monitor. I'm not using the adaptor since it turns out I didn't need it, but I'm keeping it so my son's MacBook Pro can use either monitor if he ever needs to shows us something.
