Q: erase hard drive on emac

I bought an emac mfg date June 2003 at an auction at our high school and it has the school netwok installed on it which requires a username and password to get into.  I don't have this info and want to factory reset it.  How do I do this? I don't have any discs for it.  Also is this model compatible with wifi??

You can't restore without Discs.

 

Try this & report back...

Starts up like the first time you buy a new Mac, but after filling in all that info again, you should have access to the computer and the other Users & files will still be there... give the new User a different name than an existing one.

    You will have to do some searching to find discs for it. It's quite old. Originally it came with Mac OS 9.2.2. It is able to run 10.4.11 - Tiger. An internal modem was optional. I don't know if you can still find them around. But until you boot the computer and examine what's in it, there is no way to know short of taking it apart.

    I followed all the prompts and was able to get in.  Thanks!  My question now is how how do I erase the program that the school installed with all of their user info. Also how to find out if this machine is wifi compatible.

    OK, to start with...

     

    At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware> and report this upto but not including the Serial#...

     

    Hardware Overview:

     

    Model Name: iMac

    Model Identifier: iMac7,1

    Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz

    Number Of Processors: 1

    Total Number Of Cores: 2

    L2 Cache: 4 MB

    Memory: 6 GB

    Bus Speed: 800 MHz

    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03

    SMC Version (system): 1.21f4

     

    You'll see several other catagories there & can click on the little triangle beside them to see more if needed.

     

    Also, before you click the More info button, it'll report the OS version, we need that.

     

    As far as removing other User's & info...

     

    System Preferences>Accounts>, unlock the lock, highlight an old user, then click on the tiny minus icon brlow.

    Oh, if it has Wifi, it'll be called Airport on the eMacs.
