I have a zipped copy of 10.0.5 on a10.6 bootablle drive.
As a test I had hidden my "current" (10.0.9) version of FCP and (after trashing preferences) and moved the unzipped 10.0.5 into Applications. I thought the update was unavailable because nothing showed in Updates. But when I went to the Purchases page – there it was.

Hey Russ, would you mind contacting me off-line? My email address is in my profile (I believe it is visible to the forum). Just got a quick question about the zipped copies... Thanks.

No it's not visible. But ask anyway and I'll try to answer.

Just trying to figure out a way to get a copy of something newer than 10.0.5, but not 10.1, since I have no plans to move to Mavericks anytime soon...

Jan 13, 2014 8:33 AM in response to Alfredo Jahnby Russ H,★HelpfulWell, you were concerned (rightly) about updating in the middle of projects. Apple has a KB doc about updating best practices that essentially advises zipping the app, the projects and the events. If you were to do that and went to the App Store, ideally you would get the option to download 10.0.9. (At least that seemed to be the case for me when I "showed" 10.0.5 to the App Store; however, I did not proceed any farther.) ) So I would think that was a reasonable path to take once you complete your projects.
