I have a 27" iMac running OSX 10.9.1. I Just purchased an LG 27" 2560 x 1440 external monitor (LG 27EA83R-D). I have it hooked up to my iMac usng an HDMI cable atached to an HDMI to thunderbolt connector.

The monitor is seen but when I go into the display preferneces the maximum resolution it will show for the LG monitor is 1920 x 1200.

I have a call into Apple customer service and they are talking to engineers but so far have not found a solution.

there was one suggestion in a former discussion and an older version of OSX to use the monitor drop down menu to increase the number of options but the monitor drop down menu seems to have vanished in 10.9.1 (even though you can still check the "show mirroring options in the menu bar" in the display preferences window, no actual menu shows up. This was apparently the case for the Apple support iMac as well.

Any solutions or ideas would be appreciated.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), 27" iMac, late 2012, 3.4 ghz, i7
