Q: Macbook Pro won't connect with Airplay

I have bought in March 2012 a Macbook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011). I have bought a Apple TV.

I have read that it is possible to connect your Macbook Pro with your Apple TV, so you can see the computer's screen on your TV - apparently this function is possible with Macbook Pro bought after early 2011.

But for my surprise my Macbook doesn't show the Airplay option anywhere (not on the top of the screen, nor on my system preferences display option). Both of them are connected on the same network, so that should be possible, right?

Please can someone assist how should I proceed to be able to have my computer screen duplicated on my TV?

Hello rvc2014,

Congratulations on your new Apple TV! It sounds like you would like to mirror your screen using AirPlay, but you are not seeing the AirPlay icon.

AirPlay Mirroring is available with OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) and later. If you are currently running OS X Lion or earlier, you will need to upgrade your operating system to acquire the AirPlay Mirroring feature. You can find more information about upgrading here:

If you are running OS X Mountain Lion or later, but you are still not seeing the AirPlay icon, I recommend reviewing the following article (specifically steps in the section titled "Troubleshooting AirPlay Mirroring"):
