I tried it to no avail. Every week or so I turn on magic trackpad for my desktop to check just in case someone at apple fixed something. It has only become worse, where I used to get up to 30 minutes before it went nuts on its' own, now pretty much from the fisrt moment you connect it. Things start clicking ontheir own, scrolling starts like magic etc. It truly is now a magic trackpad, bad magic!

I'm repeatedly exeperiencing this issue in PhotoShop and it's driving me nuts! I've filed a report to Apple but in the meantime I may have a temporary solution. If you download and install Magic Prefs from http://magicprefs.com (the settings live in 'System Preferences') under 'Configure Scrolling' you can use the marquee tool to limit the scroll area below where you click.

It's not an ideal solution but it does seem to work, though you might need to find your sweet spot - a place that enables you the ability to scroll freely with enough room to click without hitting the scroll area.

I hope that helps until Apple releases a fix.

OMG thank you!   I love MagicPrefs!   I defined a Scroll area about finger width, just along the very middle of the mouse.   If I then click just to the left of that area, there is no way to accidentally generate an uncommanded scroll. Yes, you do have to remember to slide your finger left to do that, but that's how we always did it with mechanical mice- i.e. you had to come off of the center scroll wheel (or ball) and click the left mouse button.

One other side-benefit.  MagicPrefs enables you to reactivate the Middle-click mouse button.  I loved that feature from my old wired Mighty Mouse because Middle-click in Safari enables you to open any link in a new Tab with a single click.

Tried this, but still does not solve the problem. I mostly find the problem using adobe CS5. This is truly annoying. This mouse has a mind of it's own. Very hard to percisely place graphics with the screen bouncing all around or scrolling at will. sometimes it will zoom out to miniscule size. Can't wait to hear a fix for this one!

This works well for me. Thank you very much. My (the) problem is the sensitivity to the resting middle finger on the mouse which causes unwanted cursor movement. Using MagicPrefs (see quote), my middle finger now rests on a area dead to any scrolling. I suggest everyone try it.

This was tuned for over two years upon release of Magic Mouse.  It's not absolutely perfect but no further tuning has been fruitful.

I support i will have to just get rid of my magic mouse.. The whole "by design" crap is just ********.

Yet they are still selling them at $69 each. They no longer work with new OS but what the ****, sell them anyway! I have $138 worth of equipment I would like to work again thank you!!! Paper weights are cheap.

Could it be solved? I am running a magic trackpad with a mac pro, so this may not help the laptop users. I read in one of the posts about grounding with another finger. However, my workflow is such that I use two hands for editing. Right hand uses a tablet (resting on my lap for ergonomics, lefthand scrolls, right clicks, types (yes I am ambidextrous). So... I put my trackpad on a square of metal. Back to normal now; no jumpy mouse, no lag in scrolling.. Maybe it's temporary but at least it works. i used a really wide, flat tin but maybe any metal surface will work. Maybe aluminum foil?

Steve Jobs must be rolling in his grave right now. I remember hearing where an employee handed him a disk with a project and he asked "is this the best you can do?" when the employee's reply was hesitant, he tossed the disk back and told him not to come back until it was the best. Jobs would not have settled for almost good...

This mouse is impossible to use for sensitive graphics in CS5. The mighty mouse was much better, but the scrolling ball got gunked up and would eventually fail. Even with adjusting magicprefs the magic mouse remains frustrating. I would also have to say I don't like the new interface as much with all the zooming and bouncing in and out of windows and folders. Cute and gimicky, but it is wreaking havoc on my eyes!

I am getting all these mouse sensitivity issues with Mountain Lion (late 2012 i7iMac). I did upgrade to Mavericks, but reverted to 10.8.5 (format, clean install) after some software stopped working - so maybe it should be woith the mouse hardware team.

However... while the metal grounding did solve the jumpy mouse, it did not solve the randomly shutting off thing. I think I may just try the logitech trackpad.
