Q: Aiport Express does not connect to router Comtrend ar-5387un

Hi,

I've been using my Airport Express for a while to get connected to my wireless networks and use it just for AirPlay.

However, I have just installed a new router (with a new company, Jazztel Spain). The model is Comtrend ar-5387un. Problem: AE (software version 7.6.3) can create a new network but it is impossible to make it part of the WiFi network created by the new router. Everytime I try, it just go to the flashing yellow light and can't be found anymore from my Mac or iPhone until a hard reset is done.

Any solution?

PS: It got connected twice for a short period of time in the "Expand network" mode (never in the "Connect to network" mode) but when I tried to update the software, it disappeared again.

The mode you want is "Join an existing network" for AirPlay. Please take a look at the following Apple Support article for details.

Sorry, but your answer is of no help. I am suffering the same problem.  I changed internet suppliers yesterday and what I get every time I try to link an Airport Express to the Jazztel network is "unexpected error please try again"

I have 3 airport express units of two generations and I cannot get any to link with the Jazztel Comtrend AR5387un router, though my internet radio has no problem. There is no problem with the Airport Express units which are working fine

Luckily I have a second router supplied by Fon (which allows me free access to the BTFon internet service in the UK) and I have used an ethernet cable to link the two rather than wifi.   I can now link all my airport express units via the Fon network to both my computer and the internet and it works perfectly.  I assume it is the way the Comtrend Router is set up by Jazztel that is causing the problem and if I can sort it I will revert.  The Jazztel guide to set up does not mention Mac computers.

I said I would revert.  The router supplied to me by Jazztel seems not to be working properly in that now I cannot connect to the internet using the it ;  however the Fon router connected to it by ethrnet cable is working perfectly and running at 5Mbps.  When the Jazztel router was working, I was lucky to get 1Mbps.

I contacted the service people who told me it was working properly, so I guess I will have to buy one.  I always wanted an Airport Extreme, so I guess now is the time to buy one!

    Good luck.

For some reason, the only way to make this thing work was the following:

1.- Instead of "joining an existing network" straight away, I chose to create a Wi-Fi network and connect my computer to this isolated network.

2.- Once this network is set up, open the AirPort utility and change from there to "Join an existing network", with the name and password of the network I wanted to join, in this case, the one created by the router provided by Jazztel.

And, voilà, it magically worked :S
