It is supported in OS X Mavericks. That's outdated.

Jan 16, 2014 9:39 PM in response to stevejobsfan0123by Limnos,Thanks. August to October; two months. Somehow I think Apple is highly compartmentalized and it isn't that Mavericks was developed in two months.
rflather: Which operating system version are you using? If Mavericks, use the iBooks app. If earlier than Mavericks the original limitations apply.

Jan 17, 2014 7:09 AM in response to rflatherby King_Penguin,If you've bought it directly on your iPad in the iBooks app then it should have downloaded onto your bookshelf in the app - if you are still in the store in the app then tap the Library button top left of the screen to go back to your bookshelf and it should be there.
If you bought it on your Mac and you haven't yet downloaded it on your iPad, then in the iBooks app go to the ibookstore (Store button top left ; the button changes between Store and Library depending upon which you are viewing) and in the Purchased tab in the store you should be able to redownload it (assuming that the book's still in your country's store).
