Jan 19, 2014 9:34 AM in response to JM JEHANNOby lkrupp,★HelpfulPower PC and X86 architecture are incompatible. A driver written for a Power PC machine will not work on an Intel based Mac. It's also a crapshoot as to whether it will work on Snow Leopard under the Rosetta emulation software that Apple included so Power PC apps would still run. Most did but there were issues. It might work but you need to just do it and see if it works or not.
I also just noticed that the link you provided lists the driver as being for OS 9, a completely different animal than any version of OS X ever released. If you downloaded a driver for OS 9 it is hightly likely that it will not work with any version of OS X, virtualized or not.

Jan 19, 2014 9:51 AM in response to lkruppby JM JEHANNO,OK, thanks the clue about this unclear solution.
Now what about virtualizing Windows 8 with parallels and running the available Windows 8 64-bit drivers with it?
If this can work, then could my ADAT USB device communicate with my app ( Ableton LIve) under Mavericks?
Or does my program (Ableton Live) needs to run with Windows 8?

Jan 19, 2014 10:21 AM in response to JM JEHANNOby MlchaelLAX,After reading about Ableton Live on Wikipedia, my advice would be for you to run the Windows version while your Mac is running Windows in BootCamp. You will get better hardware compatibility that way.
While I have had some limited success with getting PowerPC hardware drivers to work in Snow Leopard Server installed in Parallels (for some users with legacy scanners for example), if you have the Windows solution available to you, I would go with that.
No Mac sequencers available that you like?

Jan 19, 2014 10:47 AM in response to JM JEHANNOby Csound1,Is this an HD24 type hard disc recorder or the earlier VHS tape based recorder?
Specifically, which model/manufacturer is the ADAT machine.
You could buy a console with built in support for the ADAT transport (and Mavericks compatibility) thus ending the need to connect the ADAT directly to the Mac.

Jan 19, 2014 12:51 PM in response to Csound1by JM JEHANNO,This is the Korg 168RC console that I use to mix down my tracks.
http://medias.audiofanzine.com/images/normal/korg-168rc-206824.jpg
My Digital Audio Workstation is Ableton Live running on a MBP retina 15" Mavericks.
The Korg 16 ADAT digital inputs. ADAT is digital format that you can find on some CD player that use optical toshlink cable. Very practicle, because one cable conveys 8 tracks.
Unfortunately, ADAT is only available on studio professionnal expensive hardware.
With this Gigaport DG USB to ADAT dongle, I can export ADAT from my laptop at very cheap price. This product is discontinued since 2004.
The latest drivers are Mac OS 9 and Windows 8. http://download.esi-audio.com/?w=esi&p=4&g=2&l=en
So I am trying to figure out what's the best solution to run it on my new MBP.
Concerning my question about audio bridge between Mac OS and virtualized systems, here is a solution:

Jan 19, 2014 12:51 PM in response to JM JEHANNOby MlchaelLAX,★HelpfulOS 9 can only be run on classic Mac or a PPC Mac running up to Tiger in the Classic Environment.
There is an Intel emulator called Sheepshaver (and its cousin Chubby Bunny), but I doubt that it will work for your hardware device:
Here is a recent post I assembled for these:
With the newer Intel Macs, you have to run a Classic emulator such as SheepShaver, which requires you to extract the Mac ROMs from your older Classic Mac and then install Mac OS 9.
A related program is Chubby Bunny, which comes bundled with all of that included (google the term "Classic-On-Intel v 4.0.1 chubby bunny").
More information on SheepShaver:

and

Here is the Classic CD-ROM version of RISK II running in SheepShaver on my Lion Mac:

So, again, Windows running in Bootcamp may be your best bet for Mac control.

Jan 19, 2014 12:56 PM in response to JM JEHANNOby Csound1,Yes I know the ADAT recorders, but what are you doing with the Mac, using it as transport control during recording/editing (which will require software) or audio as well?
Or audio only (you should not need anything specific to send over a toslink from Ableton to the ADAT)
What does this driver do?
Also, is the Korg the 168/168RC or another model?

Jan 19, 2014 1:03 PM in response to Csound1by JM JEHANNO,My Mac is running mainly Ableton Live, but also max/msp, my firewire sound interface
http://global.focusrite.com/firewire-audio-interfaces/saffire-pro-24-dsp
With this USB to ADAT, I can output my tracks into my Korg 168RC Console.
The driver is driving that http://www.esi-audio.com/products/gigaportdg/

Jan 19, 2014 1:13 PM in response to JM JEHANNOby Csound1,OK, got it now.
You're very unlikely to get that working on 10.9, it's written for the Classic Environment (OS9)
It seems to be supported under Windows though, so
Either replace it with a more modern interface (one that will run on 10.9) or install Windows and use it instead.

My questions are :
- how can I do that? Is the SnowLeopard Server Virtualised on Parallel solution will work?
No virtualization product for the Mac supports the Firewire port. However, there may be some solutions involving USB ->Fireware using a thunderbolt port

Jan 19, 2014 1:13 PM in response to MlchaelLAXby JM JEHANNO,The main drawback with bootcamp is that it's not easy to switch from one windows app to another mac app while in the working process.
Parallels is more convenient.
I would like a transparent solution like this. Most of my app are running on Mac so I would need that driver managing adat in the back, with minimal RAM, CPU, HD space...

Jan 19, 2014 1:20 PM in response to JM JEHANNOby MlchaelLAX,I had problems using Parallels and Windows to control a high speed USB port for digitizing HD video, but more success when using Windows in Bootcamp for this process.
But I understand your need to have both environments working at the same time, so... Windows in Parallels is worth a try!

Jan 19, 2014 1:20 PM in response to JM JEHANNOby Csound1,Try one of these: AspenMadi
Support up to 10.8.2 is specified, check how the unit works on Mavericks first.
