Nov 14, 2013 8:59 PM in response to hands4by SammyTT,What if you don't have TimeMachine backup.
I recently upgraded to a new mac with Mavericks after last iMac with Snow Leopard crashed out (logic board died). I salvaged data from HD. I backed up my iPhone to iCloud. Now, my calendar on the new mac, which is iCloud enabled, is missing so many entries that are appearing on my iPhone and were a part of my previous desktop. There must also be a backup somewhere in my external drive, which has all my salvaged data.
Similarly, how can I import all my mailboxes and settings into the new Mail app? I have all the files in my old user library on the salvaged HD.

Nov 15, 2013 12:22 PM in response to hands4by RSQ,I restored Calender as you described it, but now I cannot edit any of my appointments, and I can only add new ones through clicking on the + box, not through double clicking on the day itself. Any thoughts?

Nov 18, 2013 9:17 AM in response to RSQby hands4,RSQ,
My apologies. My instructions were incomplete. There are three files to restore, not just one.
Try restoring
~Library/Calendar
~Library/Containers/com.apple.iCal
~Library/Preferences/com.apple.CalendarAgent.plist
All from the same date and time.
Backup prep before a restore:
- Run a Time Machine backup.
- Make a copy of the files you are about to restore, placing the copies on your Desktop.
- For Calendar (if possible),
- Start Calendar.
- File > Export > Calendar Archive…
- Quit Calendar.
Similarly for Contacts these are the files that need to be restored:
~ Library/AddressBook
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.AddressBook
~Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
~Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
~Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBookSourceSync.plist

Nov 26, 2013 9:53 PM in response to hands4by SithFran,I don't see Library/Calendar, there is no Calendar folder in my library in Mavericks. How do I get to it?
There is no Containers folder either. Preferences is there but no com.apple.CalendarAgent.plist either.
I've had Mavericks since day one and no issues with the Calendar until today, everything is deleted.

Nov 27, 2013 5:29 AM in response to SithFranby hands4,Small typo: It is ~/Library/Calendars (plural).
Restore
~Library/Calendars
~Library/Containers/com.apple.iCal
~Library/Preferences/com.apple.CalendarAgent.plist
You can get to them by:
Cliking anywhere on the desktop to bring up the Finder.
holding down the option key,
Pulling "Go" down to Library.
(If you don't hold down the option key then Library is hidden.)
Then Enter Time Machine, select a date and time (note it), click on Calendar, and the Restore.
Back in the Finder, Open the Containers folder and repeat for com.apple.iCal (from the same date and time).
The repeate for ~Library/Preferences/com.apple.CalendarAgent.plist
(Hopefully I don’t have any typos in this correction;)

Nov 29, 2013 4:13 PM in response to hands4by SithFran,Thanks for the response but it's still not working. I found all the files and did exactly everything you wrote. I also tried what you wrote in your first response on the 4th. Tried both ways several times and from different days in Time Machine yet I'm still getting nothing in Calendar.

Dec 9, 2013 9:01 AM in response to swordslingerby Paul2121,I am having the same issue - my most important calendar was deleted (by the system, not by me). I've followed the above instructions for recovering the data from Time Machine, but my calendar is also completely blank. I've also followed the above instructions for getting recovered iCal data to overwrite iCloud, but iCloud immediately overwrites the recovery every time the Mac is re-connected to iCloud. Shame, shame, shame on Apple for making a 101-level operation (recovering a calendar) graduate-level difficult. If anyone has further input / solutions, I'd much appreciate it.

Dec 9, 2013 6:33 PM in response to swordslingerby Paul2121,Okay, I talked with Apple support - the guy, Phillip, was great. Here's the fix: before you restore your user/library/Calendars folder from Time Machine, you have to disconnect your Internet connection (eg: power off your modem). After the restore, open Calendar - it will probably be blank (mine was). Close Calendar, go to Apple menu / Logout (user). Then log back in and open Calendar - the recovered data should appear.
Keep your modem off. Now you need to export each of your calendars. From the Calendar app, click the "Calendars" button at top left to reveal your calendars. Select the first calendar, go to File/Export/Export, choose an approprite location for the export (create a folder on your Desktop or in your Documents folder), and click "Export". Repeat this process for each of your calendars.
Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and if it isn't already, reassociate Calendar with iCloud (via the Accounts tab in Calendar preferences, or via System Preferences). At this point, if there are any flaws/missing data in iCloud, they will overwrite Calendar. Just go back to your "Export" files from the previous step, and double click the calendars you need to get back the way they should be. I believe I had to bring the calendar in as a new calendar (gave it the same name it had always had). At this point, the Calendar changes will push to iCloud, then out to your other devices. Problem solved.
Hope this works for you.

Dec 30, 2013 12:20 PM in response to Paul2121by Apolloniafromfl,I managed to extract my info needed, had the problem with i cloud, ended up starting new calendar and wiping out all the old. The only problem at moment is the keychain keeps asing for password.
Thanks for help.

Jan 7, 2014 6:12 AM in response to Paul2121by CurtD,Thank you Paul2121. Rediculous Apple, what is the point of having time machine if it can't restore iCloud iCals!

Jan 19, 2014 3:17 PM in response to swordslingerby fourquarter, between hands4 and Paul2121, I got my own calendars back up and running. A hearty thanks to both of you. Without this help there is no way in **** I would have ever recovered my calendars. I love Apple, but the complexities of getting these files back in their right places would have ended me.
Thanks!

Feb 25, 2014 4:45 PM in response to swordslingerby TBHturf,Thank you Paul2121. This worked for me too. I somehow deleted one of my calendars and was unable to restore it using time machine. The calendar was coming up blank. The key was logging out (user) and back in. Then the calendar came up the way it was before I had messed it up. I exported my individual calendars and reconnected to the internet. Then I was able to import the calendars I had exported and everything was restored across all of my devices. A huge relief.
