We have just fixed the problem based on your advice. Your suggestions are a click of a second and problem is fixed. We almost washed the power jack in beer as someone suggested through google search.
Thanks once more.

I had the very same problem. Until something simple ended up being the solution. Next to your external volume buttons is a mute button. When off it shows red. Simply slide it to the right. My sound came right back on! Once again, I had ALL the same problems and this solved it. Hope this helps.

I come across this tread while having the same problem as everyone else. I went into my setting and find my solution.
Going into>settings>general>use slide switch to> Mute button was tick> click on Lock Rotation.
That should do the trick.

I hope this one will help some of you since it fixed the same problem I had with my ipad with sound coming out only from headphones... I unplugged the headphones on my ipad once it was connected through low voltage USB (had Not charging message). That made somehow the ipad stuck in headphone mode, tried everything (reboot, reset etc...) nothing worked...
I plugged again the ipad with the same usb connection (not charging) with headphone in and removed the jack while leaving the ipad usb connection and played with sound buttons (up and down) and then it showed the speaker sound setting....
Give it a try and let ne know if this help you ...

I had this problem because I use bluetooth to stream my iphone to my hearing aids. Apparently my Ipad connected to the bluetooth stream and cutoff the speaker. I turned-off the ipad bluetooth and the speaker turned back on. If you use bluetooth you may want to try this solution.
