Q: Apogee Duet (1) not working on Mavericks

I had been on Snow Leopard and Duet worked fine. Upgraded to Mavericks, now it does not.

I plug it in initially (after reboot) and sound comes through the Duet. If I touch any volume control, the sound cuts out. In Maestro, the controls are all very finnecky, can't select any options. If I unplug and replug, still no sound comes through. Assuming it's a problem with Maestro compatability, but I've heard that Mavericks isn't really playing nicely with other non-apple hardware either. Suggestions?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

    10.9.2 link, please? david.k.reed@gmail.com

I've had issues with the static, which I'm hoping to fix. Does the update also help with Maestro 2 constantly crashing?

    Thanks

As some have discussed , there seems to be two separate causes to these issues:

-The "Fusion Drive" issue, affecting new iMacs with a Fusion Drive installed.

-The "USB Audio" issue, with Fusion & Non-Fusion 2013 "Haswell" machines.

It seems like the Fusion Drive problem has been addressed by Apple directly, in OS X - 10.9.2. There is a beta version available now, but you must be a member of their developer program to download it at this time.

Some people with 2013 Haswell Macs may still be experiencing issues even after 10.9.2. Apogee has annouced a Beta firmware update to address these concerns for Duet USB interfaces and Quartet. The Apogee Support Site has more details.

    Audio problem solved!!!.

I returned my 21.5" Imac with fusion drive and exchanged it for one with a 500GB SSD.  Everything now works perfectly.  I've spent the last 3 x days testing my Apogee Duet Firewire and RME Babyface USB.  No clicks, pops, static.  Recorded guitar and vocals using Logic.  Left logic running on a loop for a few hours.  Spotify, iTunes, Youtube through Safari all play and sound great.  None of these things worked for more than a few minutes (if at all) on the iMac with Fusion drive.  I'm running 10.9.1

It's taken endless calls to Apple Care and numerous emails to Apogee and RME over the last 2 x months.  I took the iMac to the Apple "genius" people and they said they'd had similiar issues.  They made a note in the Applecare documents that this imac wouldn't work with Audio devices and suggestred it be changed.  I paid the upgrade costs ($360) for the SSD model.

I'll never buy the latest untested computer again.  I'd heard people say you should always wait and let other people do the testing but I probably got sucked in by the glossy ads.  Newer, bigger, faster is better right?

Apple should be warning people who are buying these machines for audio production that there are major issues.  I spent $2600 on a machine that wouldn't do what it said it would.  I then spent $800 on an RME Babyface because I was told it was an external audio issue.  Then paid $360 to upgrade to to SSD.

Don't mean to rant.  I just hope someone reads this before buying an Imac with Fusion drive.  But then again why would you read this first?

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like 10.9.2 fixed the issues for the rest that are keeping the fusion drives. Since installing the beta i have not had ANY issues.

I made a mistake upgrading to Mavaricks and now my Apogee Duet doesn't work. Apple and Apogee have not replied to any mails and it's obvious they don't really give a ****.

Taking my Apogee back tomorrow for a refund.

I am using the latest copy of the 10.9.2 beta and I can confirm that the issue has been resolved for my audio problems.  Hang in there gang, the fix is going to be rolled out soon.

I am using a legitimate copy of the Apple seed, but I would advise against anyone else downloading the beta unless you are prepared to have other potential issues (it is a beta afterall).  It should not be too long before the gold master is released and we can put this terrible business behind us.

It is so great to have my Duet working again!  I'm also glad to see that Apple did address the issue, even if it took a few months.

I agree. I wish I hadn't upgraded to Maverick. It was a big mistake.

I'm dissapointed that Apple and Apogee haven't really made too much of an effort to sort the problem out. After the loyalty of their buyers you would think they would make an effort.

Still no news on the release of 10.9.2.

    Guys,

all that issues are not exclusive of Mavericks. My new Macbook Retina (april 2013) with Mountain Lion have that issues with my Duet firewire.

Man this is really messed up with the new maverick update. I make music for a living and at the moment i see my income just going to shreds because of these anoying pops and clicks that terrorize my vocals when recording. I'm disapointed to see that apple doesnt fix this problem asap since us logic users cant just hop back to working with a PC. It's a true pitty guys. Hurry up with this. I NEED TO WORK!!!!!

it really looks like there are two different issues:

    - fusion drive-> will most likely be solved with the 10.9.2 update

    - haswell mbp and mba s -> this one remains tricky - if it shows that it s a hardware problem, then good night.
