I just got a new iPad air and i was stunned, how easy it is to break its screen. I was cleaning it and I pushed it litte hard and it just cracked. I was like what the "****".

That stinks...lighter weight means thinner glass, likely a thinner back as well. Thinner means more prone to breakage. How much thinner and lighter to these devices need to be anyways? Is an iPad 3rd or 4th gen actually THAT heavy? At what point does "thinner and lighter" mean "fragile, use with care. Not responsible for breakage". I think we are at that point.

I owned iPad and iPad 2 and so forth but this one is the lighest and easily crackable. So be careful whoever has it. Funny thing is, I orderd case and screen protector that is supposed to come this week. I broke it before that.

If it truly cracked just by cleaning, then it could well have been a misassembly at the factory. The iPad Air's screen is definitely not that fragile. Make an appointment at an Apple Store or call Apple Support and discuss the problem with them.

    Regards.

Apparently they must have done something with iPad air to not make it better but more fragile. Then I just got it at first I really was impress with how light it was, but today I'm very disappointed with this new iPad air: just today I was using it: just regular use, and all of the sudden right where you hold it on the top of the right corner with your thumb the glass  just cracked and it created long cracks along the screen. It's really unacceptable that such an expensive device would crack from normal use. I didn't drop it, or did any kind of impact to it at all, plus I have padded cover on it and a screen protector from the very beginning. The iPad is just a little over a month old: I got one of the first ones came out. Before this one I owned the original iPad, then iPad 2nd and 3rd gen. And nether one had any problems. In fact my iPad 3 is closed to 2 years old: my father is still using it now. How they can make this new one so fragile? Not sure what would be my options: made an app. to Genius Bar tomorrow, I hope they would recognize the fault of the make of it, not that something I did to it, but we'll see and hopefully replace it under warranty.

I just took my apple smart case off.  It fits a little snug, and the screen cracked.  I called Apple and they said it would be 300 to fix it.  The unit is only a few month old, and has never been dropped.  I booked a visit at the apple store because this is not acceptable.  Hope they make a wrong right

I went to the apple store today and they totally took care of me.  I am very happy with the service I got, they gave me a new iPad air to replace the one with the cracked screen

Anyone know how widespread a problem this is? I'm trying to advise a friend on what kind of iPad to buy. I experienced the same thing with my new iPad Air -- a simple tap created a tiny crack, which spread and spread and spread, pin-balling all over the screen until it was beyond use. So much money later (even with AppleCare, which itself is very costly and rather limited), I went to pick up my new one and two other people with brand new iPad Airs were at the store with the very same problems: an iPad Air with a screen that splintered with little impact. I have an earlier iPad and have had two iPhone -- with no cracked screens. It's not as if I drop things....

I am also really disappointed in the new iPad air, I bought mine for my Christmas and 3 weeks later a large crack has appeared, I definately did not drop it and kept in in my bedside table - I haven't even taken it out of the house. But when I went to use it yesterday a large crack appeared, my children all have iPads or iPad minis and constantly knock them and they are fine. I went to the apple store this morning and they insist I did drop it as it is a spider crack even though there is no damage to the case? And want £249 to fix it, I am really disappointed in the customer service and this has really made me question apples motives over selling a product which will not even stand up to careful use?  Surely it is not 'fit for purpose'?

Yes same thing Apple "Genius" told me. Glass is so fragile, and **** cost of replacement is so high, I am using the broken iPad Air. I promise myself not to buy any more Apple products. Just waiting to see what can replace my iPhone. iPad will surely be replaced. I am looking into new Tablets from Nokia that have Windows 8 on them.

I agree, the price of replacing is just ridiculous, I could buy another tablet for that price! But having spent £100's on iTunes I am not sure if I can use that with other devices and i have only recently bought an iPhone 5 ( which strangely I have dropped twice on the driveway and dented casing but not cracked screen), so I will also just keep using with cracked screen until I find something else not quite so delicate.

The only thing you can do now is replace the glass on your iPad Air. Rspmobile repaired mine and I paid aresonable price. Also the gave me 1year warranty. Hope this will help you.

Thanks for that, had a look at their website and definitely a lot less than Apple are looking for, which makes getting it repaired a much more realistic option.
