Is the L5 TV remote adaptor compatible with a 2nd generation IPad2?

    Per their website:

Yes, the L5 Remote will work fine with an authentic Apple Lightning to 30-pin adapter. Make sure your adapter is an authentic Apple Lightning to 30-pin adapter. There have been reported issues with after-market adapters.

Does the L5 Remote work with my iOS device?

Yes — the L5 Remote works with all iOS devices, which includes all iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models running iOS 3.1.3 or later. If necessary, iOS can be updated through iTunes on your computer.

The 30 pin Lightning adaptor's connector looks like it smaller than the connection point on my 2nd generation IPad2.

The apple store web site shows the 30 pin lightning adaptor is only compatible with 4th generation Ipads..is that correct?

There is no such thing as a thirty pin Lightning connector.

The L5 works on an iPad 2. I own both. No Lightning connectors or adapters are involved, as neither device has a Lightning port.

I know nothing abouit connectors but I invite you to go the on line Apple Store and type in 30 pin lightning connector and see what come up.

In any case when I try to plug in my L5 remote connector into my IPad2  it is too large to fit.  Am I doing something wrong.

The Lightning connector is the smaller 8 pin port present in 4th Generation iPads and above. iPhone 5 and above, and iPod 5 and above.

Older iPads, iPhones and iPods like the iPad 2 have the larger 30 pin port. The remote adapter works directly with these connectors. No additional adapters are required.

You only need the Lightning to 30 pin adapter if you have the newer models of iPads since they have a different type of connector. named the Lightning connector.

It adapts or changes the port from the small 8 pin port to the larger 30 pin port.

What comes up is the "Lightning to 30-pin adapter", which allows a device with a Lightning port to be used with a device with a 30-pin connector.  Lightning connectors do not have 30 pins.

If the L5 does not plug directly into the port at the bottom of your iPad 2, then you do not have an iPad 2. Are you trying to plug it in the wrong way round? The 30 pin plug does have a front and a back (unlike the irrelevant Lightning connector, which plugs in either way round): unless they have changed the design, the printing on the L5 should face the rear of the iPad when you plug it in.
