Q: do you have to keep your time capsule in the same room as your iMac

Im struggling to get the time capsile working properly.  I have the capsule set up to my router but my imac cannot find it in airport utility...

Is this because i have my imac on a different floor level to my router and time capsule.. Getting internet is not a problem, even though i cant seem to get the imac and time capsule linked this way?

 

Please help its driving me mad now!!!

    We need a bit more specifics..

     

    Is this the new AC version TC? If not which model?

     

    How is the TC setup with the router? Plugged in by ethernet I am hoping?

     

    How does the iMac get internet upstairs? Do you have ethernet cabling or is it wireless? If the later is it from the TC or the main router?

     

    What OS is running on the computer? This is important as each airport utility is different.

     

    What is the main router? Make model and type of broadband helps.

     

    Did you factory reset the TC? That is the best way to get it to show up.. even brand new it sometimes does not show up so factory reset it.

     

    Do you have an iphone or ipad? With recent firmware you can download and install the airport utility for iOS and it is very helpful in setting up equipment like TC for the first time.

     

    Otherwise you can setup the TC in isolation to the network.. as long as it is not providing wireless now.. it is a bit harder as the utility will not automatically select the right configuration.
