Q: Asks me to "Authenticate" but there is only an "OK" button

I'd like to drag files to my new AirPort Time Capsule.  I have used the time capsule with time Machine and it seemed to work ok.  However, when I try to drag individual files onto the time capsule to save them I get an error message.  The error message asks me to authenticate.  The error message contains an OK button.  There is nowhere on my computer to "Authenticate."  I check he time capsule password and it is correct in the "utility" section.

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), iOS 7.0.4, AirPort Time Capsule

This seems to be a recent issue and I suspect is Mavericks.

Are you mounting the data directory before you try and drop the files.. and I would hope you are creating a new folder under data to drop them into.

Please mount the TC drive manually..

Go into the top menu area..

    Go/Connect to Server

    Type in the following

    AFP://TCname.local or TCIPaddress

TCname is the network name of the TC.. it may not be the name as it is typed into the TC.

You can pick this up using network utilities and netstat to list the network drvices you have.

I have a few different apple routers listed and because their names are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric they appear in network exactly as they are named.

You can then pickup the IP address of the device.. you simply ping it with the domain intact. ie tcgen4 doesnt work.. tcgen4.local does.

    ping tcgen4.local

    PING tcgen4.local (192.168.2.201): 56 data bytes

    64 bytes from 192.168.2.201: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=4.923 ms

    64 bytes from 192.168.2.201: icmp_seq=1 ttl=255 time=3.987 ms

    64 bytes from 192.168.2.201: icmp_seq=2 ttl=255 time=1.247 ms

    ^C

    --- tcgen4.local ping statistics ---

3 packets transmitted, 3 packets received, 0.0% packet loss

    round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 1.247/3.386/4.923/1.560 ms

So in Finder I would type AFP://tcgen4.local or AFP://192.168.2.201

The computer will then ask for a password.. whatever you setup the TC with.. or public as the default.. then you should see the drive mount.
