Q: Appleworks "unexpectedly quit" cannot relaunch

I have been using an older version of Appleworks on my iMac for a few years. 2 days ago it uexpectedly quit for good. Clicking the relaunch doen't work as it keeps showing the same relaunch, report or ignore window. I have sensitive spreadsheet files I've been using daily & I've tried opening them with "Numbers" but it doesn't allow me to open them because they are password protected. In other words, I need to get Appleworks to work.

I've deleted all (I think) all Appleworks (Application not Data) files & re-copied files from my laptop but it hasn't worked as I get the same Ignore, Report or Relaunch window. I've also tried downloading from various sites but I keep finding an "updater" instead of the actual program. Any ideas would be appreciate it.

Nothing visible happens between the time I double click the file & see the 'unexpectedly quit' message.

When I did a spotlight search I did not see any Appleworks application files....only the data files I have created. I've gone as far as backing up all those files & deleting them from my computer. There's only a single file left now when I do a spotlight search on Appleworks. It's called 'Products Appleworks' & it does not allow me to delete it. 'File cannot be deleted' is the message I get. Upon trying 'Open Enclosing Folder', I get a window named: 'Database_Publishing' whose files I cannot delete. Interestingly, most if not all the files in this folder are Page Spinner files which is the other app that quit simultaneously.

I'm convinced Page Spinner has something to do with this because I tried, more than once, to back it up to my hosting site so I can delete them but the file transfer software quits half way through the process meaning perhaps, that the host security detects something in the files it doesn't deem safe.

So I tried deleting them from my computer anyway as I have a copy on my Macbook but again, these files too 'cannot be deleted'!

Do you know why some files cannot be deleted & how to get rid of them?

    Regards

    Ben

I've managed to delete "all" Appleworks files. I've also removed & re-installed the other program. Problem persists!

Really strange, and I think it's now passed the limits of my knowledge.

I was hoping there would have been at least some action between the attempt to launch and the 'unexpectedly quit' alert. That there wasn't would indicate a corrupted AW file, if anything. A bit of a delay, nad a quit while the splash screen was showing would hit of a corrupted font triggering the crash while AW was building the font list.

"So I tried deleting them from my computer anyway as I have a copy on my Macbook but again, these files too 'cannot be deleted'!"

Probably a permissions issue—your permissions may be read only, and 'deleting' is a write operation.

Sorry I wsn't able to help much.

    Hello

It indicates there's other copy of AppleWorks in your system.

    Open

    /Applications/Utilities/Console.app

and check relevant crash report which should show the executable path of the application.
