Q: Mavericks Keychain keeps asking to unlock "Local Items" after install

Today I Updated my iMac from Mountain Lion to Mavericks.

After Installing the first boot went smooth but the mac after booting asked me to reboot again.

On the second Restart when the login window appeared also apeared a Password input window asking me to enter the password for several "LOCAL ITEMS" in the keychain but when I type my administrator password it won't work.

I hit the ESC key and the window appears several times asking for different password for several items that need access to "Local Items" in the keychain.

I tried opening the KeyChain and running the KeyChain firstaid but it didn't work.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have just experienced this problem with my MacBook Pro with the Mavricks upgrade. It took me a while to get to your fix, but it worked perfectly. Thanks so much. You saved me from a lot of frustrating and ineffective attempts at trying to resolve the problem myself.

"My solution to the "Local Items" Keychain Access password request for ____ accounts.

    1. Open Finder

    2. Click Go on Menu Bar

    3. Click "Go To Folder"

    4. Search ~/Libary/Keychains

    5. Move the blue folder labeled 00000000-0000-0000-000000000000 to your desktop (or whatever it might be on your computer, different letters and numbers for each computer)

    6. Restart your computer

    7. Move the folder from your desktop to trash and delete

    8. To check that this solved your problem, go to Finder --> Go (menu bar) --> Utilities --> Keychain Access... now your Local Items folder should be unlocked

This worked for me hopefully it works for you too!"

Thanks a lot Srons, This one worked for me!!

    Hi Sir,

Please follow the below steps to clear the Temporary Files.

    1. Open Finder

    2. Hold down Option / Alt key on the keyboard and click on Go in the menu bar and select Library ( User / Home Library )

    3. inside Library, there wouldl be two folders, Caches, Cookies, right click on them and select Move to Trash.

    4. Click on Go once again in the menu bar, select Computer

    5. Select Macintosh HD and then open Library.

    6. Inside Library, open the folder named Caches, select all the contents inside the Caches folder and move it to trash ( Macintosh HD / Hard Drive Library )

    7. Restart the system and then Empty Trash.

** Note ** Always remember your Mac OSX has 2 Libraries, one is the User Library which is kept hidden by default (follow Step 2 above to unhide it ) and the other one is the Hard Drive Library ( Step 4 and 5 ). Please note that these Libraries contains critical Operating System files and application files. Please do not delete or remove any other folders / files apart from the ones mentioned above to avoid data loss and OSX corruption.

If you want any further assistance or even after these steps your system is still running slow, please feel free to contact us any point of time.

Pacote-San and Shell Code are right...

    from FINDER

    GO

        GO TO FOLDER

           type in:    ~/library/keychains

Drag everything that comes up to trash

                restart computer

After hours of trying to figure this mess out, I had to bite the bullet and go last resort mode.  Funny enough, I didn't even have to set up a new keychain.  When my MB fired back up, all was restored as it was.  Save yourself the hassle and the 45 grey hairs an hour and make this your first resort.

Side Note:  If you have never set up your keychain (like myself) you have no other option.  All other related articles in this thread are for those who have access to their keychains.
